    is crafting really necessary?

like i imagine a bunch of people are doing im giving the game another chance in anticipation of 2.0

one of the things that i despised, absolutely hated, made me quit and sacrifice virgin goats was being forced to craft since there somehow, some way was not an auction house

come back now since a few buds are on, find the market wards and searching, its an ok substitute for an AH for now...search around in there only to find if some @$$hole isn't listing it for 9999999999999999 to show off how awesome he really legitimately is, the prices are all extremely high, like 100k for a basic robe with barely any stats...this seems to be a common trend

so in order to have decent gear and play this game am i going to have to craft? or is this dumb noob just missing something?

    thanks

The game economy is heavily eskewed towards endgame, causing mid-game and early-game things to be sadly overpriced, because people think in terms of what an endgame player has of money (I can say that my casual ass has around 400k floating around).

However, depending on how you level, it might not be as bad specially since you're a Conjurer, and your L1 Wand is as good as your L45 one and barely nothing that goes on your armor slots is worth it. But even on a melee job that depends heavily on their equipped weapon, you can get decent upgrades in the NPC stores so you don't need to rely on overpriced MW stuff.

And when you start levelling off of leves, you'll gather a fair bit of money as well.

Skies is right. The Economy is very tipped towards endgame and players who have reached the level cap will pay crazy prices sometimes just because they do not want to bother with crafting. Part of the problem is because we are limited to only having 10 slots on the retainer to sell items. If your going to sell something you have to make it worth taking up that space....if you can get 10k for 10 different things....even if its a level 5 tunic...it's going to be listed at 10k. Another part of the problem is that people can now Create Materia from there old items, this now means that those items that people outgrow and would have sold, are now being destroyed instead of putting up for sale.

Regardless of the over-inflation of the market wards, you can still be a pure combat class if you wish to play one.

    1. You can buy from NPC's ( I do not recommend this at their prices ).
    2. You can ask around while your in town to see if anyone will craft it for you...( This may take some time, but generally you should be able to find someone willing to do it for a more reasonable price...it may as fair as you would like...but much more reasonable then some prices in the wards)
    3. The best place would be from a fellow member of one of your linkshells. If you joined a halfway decent linkshell there should be someone willing to help you out for a fair price.

Many people will complain that number 2 and 3 require you to actually make an effort to interact with people, but then again...this is an MMO and help from linkshell buddies really helps you after you reach around level 35+ in your combat otherwise you will be trying to get to 50 still when the game dies....AGAIN......

Good luck on finding the equipment you need.

thank you for the responses guys

it just feels so lame not upgrading gear as you go along, ya know? especially coming from years and years of 11 with such an awesome and easily accessible auction house

my buds and i had just planned on the 4 of us bein our own ls and pickin up some people we may meet along the way but i see your point about getting others to craft, i suppose i should go find a nice friendly ls

i just hate that im on the road to white mage and doomed till my AF it seems to forever wear a big puffy beige shirt cause every robe ever crafted is worth billions -_-

I like crafting because I'm a Disciple of Land as my main trade. Thanks to the materials I gather, it's free gear I get to take to spiritbonding parties for free materia. Free materia that I can sell for gil. Free Materia I can stack on gear and sell... *hint-hint*

    Gil is good.

In the beggining the levels move pretty quickly that all you really need to do is keep your weapon dps up. If you actually try crafting your own gear by the time you actually finish a set you could have leveled up a couple levels with your old gear and need different gear anyways. Later is levels crafting really is a time commitment to level and most people do not have the time to take many craft professions at the same time as playing a fighter.

Haveing your own linkshell with your buddies is not a problem becuase in FFXIV you can actually be in multiple linkshell ( I think up to 8 ) at once. So you can have your private LS. Then a Casual LS. Crafting LS. and a couple Raiding LS.

Check out the vendor NPCs in the adventurer's guild as they have really low priced gear that is well priced until around the mid-20's i believe.

I'm fairly certain Guildleves and sidequests reward a decent amount of gear now. Ul'dah guildleves can give cloth gear, Gridania leves can give Leather gear, and Limsa leves can give Metal gear. Sidequests have their own individual rewards so just look around for them and see what they offer.

if you have a decent linkshell, the gear dropped from NMs is very good.

I did Shposhea (sp?) and got 15 gear. adn then hunted NMs for 30 gear. I wore 30 gear all the way to AF con CNJ. there isn't a whole lot of stuff to upgrade out of teh NM30 gear that's worth it for CNJ. except rings, and i found those to be reasonable price for the level they are.

I think the same is true for most other combat classes. I was helping two buddies of mine gear LNC/DRG and ARC/BRD. we leveled together and powered to 30 in a couple days, and now are NM hunting for gear. most of it will last a while (excepting weapons).

for the most part, you can go naked to 15. then where Shposhea gear, then go for the 30 NM gear and be fine to AF and save your cash for endgame gear.
