Unable to register pre order bonus

pre ordered dawntrail digital collectors edition got the code for the pre order bonus items
entered it in mog station it gave me an error saying
"Unable to verify proof of ownership for FINAL FANTASY XIV in the Steam Library.
Please ensure FINAL FANTASY XIV has been purchased from the Steam Store, then try logging in again." i dont get what is this suppose to mean i am logged in with the steam account that i use to play this game since i started its the same account that is linked to my square enix account as well is this a bug because of the amount of traffic ?

Not 100% sure (may need to double check) but if you got/play FFXIV through Steam I don't think you can use a code from Retail (SE Store) for Dawntrail - think you have to purchase/Pre-Order it through Steam? (and vice versa - retail copies of FFXIV can't use Dawntrail codes bought through Steam)

Again, could be wrong so don't take it as gospel but that was my understanding of how the whole steam licensing for the game works.

Unless you pre-ordered it through Steam in which case, no idea on that one I'm afraid - as you said, maybe due to traffic.
