Pre-orders: Faith/No Faith, FOMO/No Risk

I will "preorder" at the last moment for the early access. I just find the concept of pre-ordering irritating. It made some sense to secure a copy for the release day back when games only came in physical form and had a limited supply, but nowadays it's only a ploy to get players to pay well in advance of the actual release of the product, which essentially boils down to lending publishers money with no interest rate.

I will be pre ordering the digital version as soon as I am able. Probably Tues night as I will be dealing with the Hubby having Surgery Tuesday morning. Really only pre ordering for the earring. If I get it I get it if not then not. Hubby much more important than a game to me.

As long as I can confirm that I can play Monk pretty much the same as in EW, then I will pre-order, so I'm awaiting the media tour I suppose.
Oh, and maybe some more fishing boat things.

I'll probably preorder, but whether or not I go for the digital collector's edition will depend on what's included with it. I can skip the physical edition, I don't particularly care for statues.

EDIT: Okay, actually looked up the CE bonuses. A Wind-up Garnet minion and an Ark reskin of the Cruise Chaser mount. Yeah, okay, I'm in. IX is still my favorite single-player FF. Still skipping the physical box, though.

And the preorder bonus is a Wind-up Zidane. And also the typical earrings, but since all of my jobs except BLU are already at 90 anyway, that doesn't mean a lot to me. (Yes, ten levels of viper and pictomancer will go a little faster, but that's not a deal-maker.)

Website says the earring only applies up to level 90, so won't benefit Viper or Picto

As it's likely I'm going to have to play on my PS5, I'll be waiting until I can get the full version of DT with everything included. I wonder if I can pre-order that..

As for the digital collector's edition, I'll definitely get it sometime. I generally get the pre-orders but then wait a few months after release to actually play the expansion, lots of other games to play/busy working.

With FF14, any time you buy the latest expansion, it comes with all the earlier expansions. I quit after Heavensward and never bought Stormblood. Then I pre-ordered Shadowbringers, and if I'm remembering correctly I immediately got access to Stormblood, even before Shadowbringers was released. This was all on PS4.

So my guess would be that if you pre-order Dawntrail on PS5, you will immediately have access to everything up through Endwalker on PS5. Though I'd recommend doing some due diligence to make sure that's still how it works this time around!

Then I pre-ordered Shadowbringers, and if I'm remembering correctly I immediately got access to Stormblood, even before Shadowbringers was released. This was all on PS4.

On the other hand, if I'm remembering correctly, previous preorders definitely did not unlock the middle expansions immediately, and people were warned that they would need to wait until the expansion actually came out before they could register it to acquire any of the expansions they received from the purchase.

I feel confident that I will enjoy the upcoming expansion, so I will pre-order it.
I am not going to pre-order it long in advance of the release however, I only pre-order to get the pre-order bonuses which can wait until the week before the release or thereabouts.

I will pre-order because I have been here since version 1, so I know I will play DT anyway. Plus I like those exp bonus earrings and this one is the first really pretty one we've gotten. That mount tho, I find that really disappointing, and pictomancer will be a no go for me due to the animations, so at least I only need to order than standard edition for the first time since I don't need the CE items.

Do you intend to pre-order when they start on Tuesday, wait until later, or don't plan to pre-order at all?

What is influencing your decision?

Do you have faith in the developers that you will enjoy the expansion and so have no reservations pre-ordering as soon as possible?

Do you not have faith in them and so have no desire to pre-order?

Are you a collector/completionist only pre-ordering because you will go crazy if you miss out on the pre-order bonuses to fill those collector/completionist impulses?

Will you only pre-order because there is no risk to you and so why not?

I'm pre-ordering because I have faith in the development team. I've no doubt that Dawntrail will have its flaws just as each expansion has had some but I'm also confident I will still enjoy playing the expansion.

I don't think there's any reason for FOMO tbh... you can preorder last minute and get the bonus stuff still. I think all of my years back in WoW taught me to wait lol.
