    Please outline what you think ARR paladin played like. What was their actual rotation? What erstwhile depth that was there and isn't now do you perceive?

    Edit: And if you say aggro management I am just going to disregard you because aggro management was not and never has been complex in ff14.

    The heavansward paladin had a dot rotation and goring blade rotation which is when all tanks had 2 rotations. And what depth does jobs have now other then spam 1-2-3 until burst phase and occasionally provide raid wide buffs. There is no depth or challenge in modern shadowbringers/endwalkers 2 minute meta stage of the games life and the current combat caters to the lowest common denominator because people look at games like wow and don't want more then a single rotation.

    I think you mistook combo for rotation.



    3.x PLD was incredibly simple. It was hardly more complex than 2.x PLD.



    Current PLD is far more complex in terms of job mechanics.

    Easily one of the worst takes I have ever seen about this game. Removing aggro as a mechanic instantly ruined tanking for the next 5-6 years or however long it has been.

    Oh yeah, because doing a couple of threat combos and then switching off of tank stance for the rest of the fight, wholly ignoring said threat combo after was super engaging. This mechanic that was meaningless to competent players but a massive stumbling block for the bad ones was definitely a load-bearing mechanic.

    Oh wait, no. The removal of threat as a relevant mechanic is probably the single greatest qol feature added to this game outside of the glam dresser. What was previously the number one source of vote kicks and abandons vanished overnight. Not only were tanks holding threat consistently, I also never had to deal with the middling nervous tank who sandbags their dps 25% or however much it was for the whole dungeon by never leaving tank stance.

    If they released HW classic I would never sub to the main game again. They ruined combat in 4.0 and it has gotten worse with every patch since. There are obviously a lot of QoL things that have gotten better like resetting CDs on wipe, glam dresser, world travel, etc. but I would forsake all of it in a heartbeat if it meant I could enjoy the game again.

    This I have to disagree with, because I started the game as PLD in 2.16 and it was nightmare as a new player. You go into normal dungeon for story, your bard pulls before you and you spend next 30 seconds trying, without much of a success to get off the army of mobs off of them. Aggro was very easily lost in the early days, especially if DPS in party had an ounce of higher iLvL gear. "You pull - you die" wasn't a joke back then, and the only DPS who could somewhat substitute the tank for a short while if needed was DRG thanks to their tankier gear.

    Doing Garuda EX as ilvl 60 PLD with a ilvl 110 Bard during one of the patches scarred me for quite some time then because dude just couldn't read the room and stop freaking pulling, and I couldn't take off the boss off of him even with Provoke and aggro combo, simply because I was geared worse compared to him. I even remember our ilvl of the time, it left that much of an impression, and it wasn't a fun experience in the slightest.

    This is not a thing anymore these days, for better or worse (and I can see both cons and pros to how aggro is today).



    And on the question of the post, I'd say no, personally. DT isn't by any means perfect, but I don't really want ARR and HW experience back.

    Also, saying hw jobs are more complex is not consistent ANYWAY! It's a subjective claim but here's my list

    More complex in hw: Sch, pld, drk, mch, smn, war.

    less complex: drg, nin, bard

    Debateable/I don't remember them well enough: whm, ast, blm, mnk
