Seems to work quite smoothly. One becomes a "Voyager" whilst on Materia, and there was a queue of 25 people at 2pm Sydney time.
Trade does work on gil at least. So there is a way to move a "little" currency around all four datacentres.... 2 accounts + 1 million at a time.
I guess if I was in SE's position, I'd be using how many millions is transferred between EU and NA as an evidential metric to how economy breaking this is. Nothing like hard and fast data on what it does to the economy on all datacentres over the next few months.
Editing to add: Buying from the MB in Materia also works. The price of Thav Onions just jumped a lot. Instant equalisation.
Edit 2: Pee chat is lively on the RP server, and the shouted venue ads are flooding out.

The economy is already broken thanks to submarines salvage and RMT combined with the fact that gil is a worthless currency at the end of the day.
Hopefully this will go well, and they will open travel to any destination later on.
I will be travelling to OCE often as the ping is the lowest for me (NZ). I've already bought some gearsets as they were cheaper than Dynamis prices, that's good for OCE crafters right!
Not to mention all of the traffic from other worlds, this is what the DC needed from day one to help it get going.
Queues are good, chat is pure faeces, pros and cons.
Visited the server from Aether, went to Ravana first. Ran an Expert Roulette, and did a little bit of shopping. Some things were lower so I grabbed a few things before heading back. I saw some Frontlines going on but I didn't want to deal with the lag on that. Went to Radz and... About as dead as I've ever seen it, even during Early Release Endwalker when not everyone was there yet.
I'm not sure how this will fare with other DCs but it seems like it will help Materia slightly because... I didn't believe how dead it actually was until I saw it going around the different zones.
Actually, it is. It's nice to see a bunch of old-friends come back to Sydney, socially on the Sophia server too.
Early impression is, it will liven up the release of the next expansion, as people try to skip the 2000+ NA/JP queues at the end of June, ping wise EU will be too difficult for even snapshot-watching the shorter tells. But NA and JP will be fine.
For anyone with that plan in NA/JP, it would be timely to use this chance to try a few roulettes to watch the difference in tells and weaving at higher ping, if they have an hour to kill in queue.
Heh, check out the housing wards to see so many empty properties.
