Ah, you complained about the world's friendliest and most positive game community of all time? For shame, you toxic troll. You see, unlike World of Warcraft, FFXIV is super duper welcoming to all players (as long as you comply with our demands). Unlike WoW, we will never kick you from a dungeon (unless two of the players are married). And unlike that horrendous demonic ghoulish torture game World of Warcraft, we do NOT have officially state-mandated DPS meters (we have third-party ones instead). And unlike that Guantanamo Bay waterboarding simulator known as Dragonflight, we do NOT require add-ons! Unless you roleplay, or do ultimates, or world first, or anything else in party finder. So I kindly suggest that you move on from your infatuation with that insidious gas chamber known as World of Warcraft right now, because whether you like it or not, FFXIV is way better than your game.

Oh dears. This agains. Mao played many MANY MMOs over years and one thing Mao can say is that ALL of thems has their fair share of bad peoples and good peoples. Mao sees FFXIV as being no differents in that regard. Maybe just try ignore bad peoples and make friends with good peoples?

There is definitely a rabid subsection of this community that acts like enjoying final fantasy 14 is some kind of lifestyle choice or something. These people would win a gold medal in mental gymnastics; you should see how they defend a monthly subscription game that updates less than some free to play games. There are things I enjoy about this game, too. Otherwise I wouldn't still be here. But I'm willing to admit that this game has flaws, and to these people that kind of admittance is like a crime or something. They're here in abundance; you can see them whenever you make a thread just suggesting a minor quality of life adjustment and they pull up to tell you why that's impossible for square to do, as if they know any more about the development process than we do. As if they can speak as an authority on the subject. It's comical.

In game there manages to be a special kind of toxicity as well. Weaponized reporting reigns supreme here. God forbid you upset someone enough to wield this against you. Even though the game has a profanity filter that's ON by default, you can actually make the conscious effort to turn it OFF, get offended when you witness profanity, and then report someone for it. And a GM will take your side! How dare an adult in a game full of naughty words say those naughty words that you have the option to remove with a single click! Don't you worry, we'll take care of him. Of course, this leads to abuse. People who were never offended to begin with will simply pretend to be, in order to wield the draconian terms of service against people they have beef with. This just happened to a JP user. He took a totally SFW picture of his male character and put it on twitter, but HOLY SMOKES you could see a nipple, which meant he was using (gasp, the horror) visual modifications that don't affect his gameplay or give him an edge over anyone. This was probably the second most harmless form of 3rd party tools imaginable (the first being reshade or something), so naturally people who already hated this guy anyway pounced on it, mobilized a squad to mass report him, and got his account in hot water until he apologized publicly for daring to have a nipple. Great community! Hell, there was a thread here where someone got reported for their in game name and made a thread about it. What did the good people here do? Threaten to report him as well! And let's be real; nobody living their day to day lives here was actually pearl clutching over a weird name. They just didn't like OP, or disagreed with him on some level, and weaponized the report system against him for a laugh. This is the kind of person who's emboldened in this game.

My last MMO was bdo and that community was outwardly toxic, but at least you knew where you stood with people in bdo because they'd insult you to your face. XIV is full of sneaky rat snitches. When they show you who they really are, you should thank them, and then never ever associate with them.

At the very least, western MMO players straight up tell it in your face and ask you if you gonna cry about it.

XIV players straight up send threats on streamers/yt'ers if they don't like what they hear from them in their streams/videos.

Now if I want to take this at face value, then I disagree. The community isn't great for sure, but calling it the worst is a bit of a stretch.
