Many people will agree that while gathering if they want maximize the time a single ability is active ( ex. Fingerprint of the Gods, Sweat of the Brow, ect. ) they should set this as their only ability. Since only one ability can be active at a time, If a person sets multiple abilities they eliminate the chance of getting the ability they want to proc if another ability is activated first.

If we look at the following 3 Gathering abilities Earthen Favor, Stroke of Luck, and Nature's Bounty, all these will increase your chance to locate a rare item while gathering. If the goal is to maximize rares while gathering, does it increase the odds of getting a rare by setting all 3 abilities since they have the same effect? (Which method below is the correct one? )

***** Since I do not know the real chance of Earthen Favor, Stroke of Luck and Nature's Bounty to Activate, I will use 5% each as an example to simplfy the methods ***

Method A: Setting all 3 Abilities gives you a 15% chance to activate the ability to increase odds of hitting a rare. Each ability has a 5% chance to activate and it will check all of them to see if it procs unless one is already active of course.

Method B: Setting all 3 Abilities is the exact same as setting only 1 Ability. The game randomly picks one your your abilities if none are already in effect. Then checks to see if that one ability activates at the rate of 5%.
