If the game is getting harder then we will need dps metres. Official ones.

If normal dungeon are going to get harder, then we will need dps metres.

    It makes dps more accountable
    It helps improve dps

Running dungeons, raids and trials is a team game. And needs coaching to win.

Sure their will be idiots who misuse the data. However that will be minuscule to the massive help it will be.

And metres can help tank and healers as well.

I assume this is in response to Yoshi-P's comment about adding some stress back into the game.

I highly doubt we will suddenly have enrage wipe mechanics in normal mode.
It will just be to the extent that you might now actually be able to die in normal content.

No, we won't. We don't even need them for current savage. You can clear ultimates on a Playstation (and soon Xbox).

They are not going to get harder in the way you are suggesting either. If they get any harder, they are probably just referring to something like Heavensward or Stormblood, or easing up on the degree of telegraphing. If we're honest, there's probably nothing they can do to a dungeon that's going to make it much more challenging to a veteran player with years of /playtime, but they can make it more varied or threatening.

The only argument you can make for needing to track DPS is if there is an enrage, which I don't think there ever will be in a dungeon. And even in that scenario, you don't need to track DPS because if you wipe to enrage, then you have your answer: your DPS needs to be better.

Also doing good DPS scales with doing your rotation properly, optimizing for potency-per-second, mechanics and phase transitions, not letting cooldowns lapse unless it's to align with lots of raid buffs and gear, materia, food and damage potions. If you just do all that then you're never going to need to calculate your damage.

Now it does make DPS more accountable in the sense that you can look at someone else's damage and then attack them for doing their rotation completely wrong or still being in dungeon gear. But that is exactly why they aren't in the game, because that is the culture it creates.

You can usually spot who is not playing well by their ability to do mechanics and their HP being lower than average (indicating lower gear). If it was a static you would be able to just test them in a variety of content to see if they are playing well. You can see who is pulling their weight in dungeons for example and the best DPS usually has second enmity.

We didnt need official DPS meters back when healing and tanking was much more complicated. Why would we need them now?

I don’t think we need DPS meters (though honestly if content is remotely being done console players will generally be parsed by a PC player so they aren’t really at that big of a disadvantage)

However this game is incredibly terrible at actually giving you somewhat decent feedback on how much DPS you are doing and if you are proportionately contributing based on your role

I think there is room to integrate systems to inform players when they are massively underperforming the average or simply just doing their rotation incorrectly

Nah. I'm gonna interpret 'more stress' as things like dungeons, normal raids, and alliance raids might require a little more coordination, could be a little faster in terms of fight pacing, and will more likely wipe a group who don't do the mechanics correctly.

No body attacks anyone. I ve had crap dps in wow. And in every dungeon run i did nobody attacked me. The most common comment was that their is something wrong in your rotation. And that was it. In eso they just have individual dps metres. You can opt into a group one if you wish. I have been attacked verbally in eso once out of the many hundreds of dungeon runs I ve had. And that was because the player was an asshole. I was a fail dps. And meters helped me improve my game. The benefit of metres outweighs the negative. However I am petitioning for them, even though I know they most likely never be an official feature. Every class has rotation guides. And every content creator has most likely an unofficial dps metre to inform us of the top preforming classes. In built dps metre so console players can parse their dps. It could be a individual metre or an opt in group one.

I guess I just don't see the need. I doubt the game is going to become that difficult as to where we need to start parsing one another in a normal mode dungeon. Folks who do endgame will find workarounds if they want to do it but considering most normal mode difficulty activities don't even have an enrage, seems pointless or would just give folks looking to give other players a hard time more of a leg to stand on.

Doesn't yoshi say this bs all the time? Didn’t he say that Thaleia was gonna be hard on par with SB raid.

I seem to recall him saying this before EW released too, and look where we are.

Context: I've played many MMORPGs, but not WoW. But in every MMORPG, I met players who had come from WoW and every single one of them told me it was extremely toxic and they quit because of it. This is something people told me consistently going back over the last 20 years. The perceived toxicity has always driven people away from that game.

Maybe it just changed recently, because this is what I have been told consistently by people who tried the game. It's been meme'd about on youtube by all the people who came from WoW to this game as well.

I was a fail dps. And meters helped me improve my game.
In this game, you can improve your game simply by looking up how to do a rotation, how gearing works and optimal settings and keybinds, or by watching a PoV video of your job clearing a fight so you can see how they perform a rotation while doing it, and compare it to yourself.
