Based on his comment, it seems that he played FFXI. I'm pretty sure you can have enjoyed FFXI without enjoying the skillup system. I know I did. I even enjoyed making sure all of my skills were capped, and worked on it daily in FFXI. That's the problem - it feels like an obligation and it's such a horribly slow and painstaking process that simply overlaps with the leveling system that already exists.

Even if you think it worked in FFXI, that doesn't justify adding it here. If anything, FFXI skillups don't fit the traditional FF way of leveling as well as FFXIV without skillups does. Just saiyan.

I personally just find masochist and playing FFXI in some way in the same sentence funny, considering it would be far more masochistic playing this game with even foundation issues, than it is to skill up a weapon which you only realistically had to outside of partying if you were power leveled or burned your way to cap.

Skilling up was the least thing that could be considered masochism, especially if we're posting on a forum for a game that anyone who still plays could be considered a masochist rather than playing something that's far more refined out in the market.

Because my Rdm's Enfeebling and Sword skills got so much use in exp parties while keeping a haste/refresh/back up cure rotation.

There were plenty of skills that fell by the wayside in XI in the name of "efficient partying."

Even worse was Corsair. Marksmanship was hard enough to keep capped with a full four roll rotation, forget about dagger and sword. Especially if you landed in a JP party that expected you to go /Whm and be a pseudo bard.
