Calling it a preexisting job is a stretch. The only character that was called a Pictomancer was Relm. And she was a glorified Blue Mage reskin. The only other appearance that you could argue was in Bravely Defaut II. And that rendition was... much less cheerful of an aesthetic.
Why?
The idea of mages who use pictures for attacks isnt new (only rare, with Sai from Naruto or Rill from Black clover).
The idea even existed allready in the omega raid.
Its actually a nice idea, to use that part of magic power. And lore wise is it a good magic for someone, who want to entertain the people (the other schools doesnt look right for that purpose).
The question will only be, how its works from the mechanic.
It's not really the same thing, but Ado/Adeleine from the Kirby games can also paint things on a canvas that then become real. With a paintbrush in one hand and paint palette in the other.
Though I would love if they kept with the skill naming scheme they used in Bravely Default II.
Disarming Scarlet, Disenchanting Mauve, Incurable Coral, Indefensible Teal, Zappable Chartruse, Splatter, Freehand, Chiaro, Scuro, Brush with Death, Mass Production.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Braverly Default is still a side product from Final Fantasy, and XIV loves to be referential to something. IIRC Relm only had Star Prism (desperate attack) and Sketch as named abilities.
I been wondering, because Pictos are also going to paint landscapes, will they use some of Mog's (also from VI) Dances, seeing as they are based on what terrain/background the fight is taking place on. (◉‿◉)

I think its safe to say they will eventually rework the animation style.
I don't think it'll be the same as all the other jobs, but its probably gonna be somewhere in the middle.
There hasn't been a single visual upgrade rework on any job yet, has there? What makes you sure they'll do it now, and for a job that's just released of all the jobs?
