I would love to see Monk's Thunderclap reworked into a targeted dash like Shukuchi

As a ninja main, one of the most jarring changes switching to another melee job is getting used to the gap-closing/repositioning skills.

Shukuchi feels so good to use when I need to dodge an AoE or cover distance, especially in non-combat instances or when jumping to an enemy isn't an option (like when adjusting for a knockback mechanic.)

Of all other melee dps Jobs, the Monk's Thunderclap feels the most appropriate for a ground-targeted dash like Shukuchi:

    1. It deals no damage, but could still be macro'd as a single button-press jump-to-target.
    2. Monk is the only melee dps Job without a true disengage ability. Yes, we can Thunderclap to an ally, but that requires the ally to be in the right place. Six-Sided Star gives a movespeed boost, but who knows if that will be the case in Dawntrail.
    3. It fits the Job fantasy of being a hyper-mobile, extremely-fast martial artist. Just as Shukuchi isn't a true teleport, Thunderclap wouldn't be to be either.

I would genuinely like to hear the community's thoughts on this suggestion, and why you would agree or disagree with the suggestion to have Thunderclap changed to a ground-targeted dash like Shukuchi.

Movement tools are one of the few ways that jobs can retain a bit of uniqueness. If there's a learning curve associated with switching jobs, then that's a good thing.

I dislike the fact that all the new gap closers introduced in Dawntrail are essentially the same type, VPR included. Surely they could add in a couple of fixed distance dashes/rolls, or even a few personal speed boosts instead. You could even do an interactable ground effect that others could use to teleport between two spots. You can debate over which approach is the best, but if they're well designed then there will always be situations where they excel.

VPR is looking to have the weakest movement tools out of all of the melee jobs at the moment, being forced to walk away from the target manually. It looks like they felt compelled to add in a lot of gap closers at once but had no ideas on how to do so.

PIC at least got an interesting gap closer

A combo of en avant and expedient

I do agree VPR not having a “repelling” gap closer is an interesting design especially if they go heavy on chariot mechanics

I think it's nice that jobs have a variety of movement skills that are unique to the job. If anything I'd like to reduce its casttimes closer to the pvp times, basically allowing you to dodge most ground aoes effortlessly by zooming to a healer granting them a lil shield and zoom back to the boss.

Even if it's just fluff, they add a lot of fun and action into the game.

Job individuality and feeling unique is very important, that's for sure. I just feel that only being able to dash to a target feels..."off" for Monk and doesn't fit what the class fantasy is in my mind.
I hate to reference Dragonball, but that really seems to be the fantasy SE wants to deliver on, and they're constantly zipping around faster than the eye can see in that show.
That, and just being able to shoot across social areas is fun as Ninja and Reaper, and I wish Monks could do it too.

They could make it so that it can used it on friendly NPCs. That way you can zip up to a shop NPC while in a city.
