That is hard to say if the later is even true, male Viera was only brought about after the forum took to the hills and went 400+ pages on it... lel
But it's hard to gauge opinion when a topic is more nuanced...and when it does not reflect everyone's opinions because someone just does not care because of "X"...like healers for example.
For example, Tanks and DPS jobs do not care what happens to the healer role as it does not affect their own game play to engage enough with these forums so the overall turnout is lower (I still do believe they reflect a good majority of the player base though, it just does not see as much light).

I mean... you're right. It's hard for people to understand and empathise with others' experiences when they haven't experienced it themselves. All anyone can do is try and make the rest understand, but even that's not so easy, because people might agree on the problem, but even amongst themselves disagree on the solution.

I really don't think the forum has anything else than a minimal impact on these things. Especially the non-JP forums. There have been issues discussed for hundred of pages that went under the water because people just stopped complaining as time went on... And other things no one complained about that were changed. Maybe they're listening to the forums, but I think they roll more on the statistics they get from people playing the game, and their own wills more than what can be gathered here. Especially given how controversial some issues are on the forum.

Yeah I feel like this is the case. Just look at when they came out and said the relic weapons were a success because of its engagement this time around. Meanwhile the forums and everywhere else is complaining they are brain dead easy and pointless.

I also believe this to be true, but I wish they would pay attention to the actual feedback rather than just stats. Stats don't tell the whole story, like the post above mentioned, engagement of the relics are because they are easy to get. Not so much out of enjoyment. (Which allows for higher item lvl, but I digress).

Would the major opinion becoming vocal be bad? THEN they would look to the forum more for how to continue, and be able to gather information rather quickly. You can't really say that faithfully...as for your example, it's not fair but that's why they SPEAK up. You can't gauge someone disagreeing if they never disagreed in the first place the same vice versa. If someone is quiet, you can't assume they agree with you.

I think you severely overestimate how many people are upset.



Yes some posts on the forums balloon in size, but it's generally the same group within posting. Even people who visit the forums regularly, like many who post in the show your <race> threads, don't post in the negative feedback ones because they don't feel the need to.

I should add on, why should the silent majority matter when they don't speak their mind? Honestly, look at this through a looking glass...if the silent majority absolutely hate/love something they would come out and say it on here, that's what the forums are for, discussion. The reason they don't I think, is because the consensus aligns with their point of view or the formula hasn't changed enough for them to warrant feedback (this can be negative or positive (I see it as mostly negative)). People like to say we don't represent the majority but the truth is more likely we do, at least some of them. [People who refute that premise are obviously being bad actors.]

Though, honestly we should really stop pandering to a silent majority...that accomplishes nothing..Because by the end of the day you can use that argument for anything to turn down any premise when you absolutely don't know what the major popular opinion is, it's data we can't collect. Even if we could, would it evaluate to anything meaningful(?) Mixed thoughts tend to become a blob of information if not generalized.

It's funny because in other games, not catering to the lowest common denominator and catering to those of no opinion is what happens.

If judged by the simpler data of how many people are doing them, then by that metric they're a success. The fact that so many people are doing them because it's so easy (and because there's not much else to spend those tomes on) doesn't necessarily enter into their equations. Hell, I've got everything up to the second-to-last stage, including on jobs I don't play (I have literally never taken scholar into any content other than its own job quests), because why not.

The issue has to do with how they look at data. They don't even register problems like how the time limited unreal content is dead and impossible to learn / do if someone doesn't do it in the first two weeks of release. Someone trying to do it now will be sitting forever in PF without a hope in the world of doing it. That and gear level itself has been isolated way too much to savage. I'm convinced the devs are literally scared to death of giving anyone access or progress to max iLvL patch gear through anything less than a savage because they think it will kill the content. If anything it would cut down the people doing savage to the ones that honestly want to do it. I'd rather do mid tier content and avoid the stress myself but they offer no alternatives.
