Again, I don't doubt ESO has an housing system you want, but it doesn't mean FF14 need to clone it.
Just because you want a large house and can't get it doesn't mean Ward is a failure, it is just not the style you want.
Takes Android vs IOS, each has their weakness and strength and you have freedom to choose, but it doesn't mean both platform need to be same.
Being noisy on a social platform doesn't makes you correct
You asked me for reasons why FFXIV is more popular and i gave you those i heard the most.(also ESO was developed by zenimax online and not bethesda)
While both systems are different they are aiming for the same goal: to provide users with a fun experience decorating houses.
So two games introduce housing systems and some time down the line one gets forum posts, reddit threads and website articles about how people can’t get houses they want, while the other side discusses how to best recreate Todd Howard's face out of fish.
It’s not android vs iphone, it’s android vs windows phone.

We could have seamless outdoor/indoor transition without loading screens. A bigger outdoor and possibly side buildings we can decorate. There can be an entire storyline about acquiring a house and then upgrading its size (housing grind similar to relic grind).
This is one of the biggest points in favor of instanced for me… just think of all the things we could have added to housing that we’re not able to have because of the ward limitations! And as you’ve said, not everyone cares about the social aspect of housing, and the wards will still be there for those that do. Many of us just want a customizable space to decorate, and a friends or FC member only access like the islands have would be just fine. Can you imagine the Island’s outdoor furnishing system, only with an actual house you could decorate just like a ward house? Or maybe one of those open air cabins that we could actually decorate? Or any number of other things they could add… the trade off for the extra features could be that they’re more “generic,” with a handful of basic themes, the main difference between them is all in the creativity of how the owner makes it look. There’s a lot of ideas people here have had, and a lot of them are pretty good!

A big thing people really want to see is a plot that can be any size, so it can be upgraded (or even downgraded) at will. But a lot more than that just want their own house to decorate without having to move servers. And there’s no reason we couldn’t have ward and instanced alongside each other.

Yep! I have an FC room, an apartment, an island and a house, and I decorate them all.

Most people who want a house also have apartments and/or FC rooms as well. But they want a house too, and that’s perfectly understandable when we’re all paying a sub here.

I want instanced housing because the neighborhood system is depressing. What's the point? The whole thing is empty. I never see my neighbors. My fancy fully decorated house is surrounded by 3 neighbors with completely empty plots. I HATE looking at the boring empty yards and basic houses, they ruin my view and my mood. I just want an instance where I'm alone and surrounded by trees instead of disgusting empty plots.

Why even have a plot if you don't decorate it for years?? People are weird, they always cry for a house but then they get one and don't even touch it. smh

That's funny because many MMOs have instanced housing. And I'm already alone because the so-called "neighborhood" in XIV is a ghost town, lol.

    I'm with you.
I did see 1 person in a housing ward a few days ago. They were AFK.
Do you think that's the neighborhood feel people are talking about? That MMO experience?
Or- If the MMO experience isn't related to housing, then why should it matter if we want to have a house instance all to ourself?
There are apartments, but they give very limited range- are as limited in customizing, just way less than houses already- and have the same empty/ ghost town feel as house wards.

Or is the neighborhood feel the part where FCs give gil to players who copy+paste nsfw prompts and have players pay them for erp? I'm not holding judgement over anyone for how they do things, but when people say neighborhood feel, I've yet to see anyone give examples of what they mean.
Or do they mean the neighborhood feel of being forced to look at other players ugly creations?
Want a nice view for your house? sorry, there's a giant eyesore owned by someone who is obsessed with hot pink and hingan houses. And better yet, their plot is always empty - inside and out and noone is ever home to say hello.

Folks can suggest "Well, dont own a home in ffxiv!" So, we're not actually going to address the issue?
Just dance around the fact the only reason the housing isn't changing anytime soon is because of subscriptions?
While The dev team could actually tie in subscriptions to owning instanced homes without ever giving them better features, but imo if the basis of our activity to own a home is also one of the links to an active subscription; I believe there should be more emphasis on improving the housing wards and housing features. Yoshi-P has said adding more house features will be looked into - but no other mentioning of it. Back when stormblood was new, he brought up the possibility of giving apartments size upgrades.

Does other MMORPG has a place called Limsa Lominsa?
Most of MMORPG offers a new player hub in each expansion; the best example would be World of Warcraft
The main cities are not deserted only because Blizzard enforced AH House only available in main cities.

However, when you take a look at FF14, each FF14 expansion main city not only offer Markeboard but Inn as well
Yet, fully functional new player hub still unable to attract people offLimsa Lominsa
Limsa Lominsa is so special that all people just stay there therefore I don't think it is fair to thinks Neighborhood idea is a failure.
Like right now, Limsa Lominsa clearly out populated Old Sharilyan

FYI, when Housing first installed for FC only aned Limsa Lominsa still not a thing, most people hang around marketboard near their own FC
