Syncing UI customization between two installs

Hi peeps ~

You guys were great helping me find my lost Monoa Mask (I was able to locate and continue on my MSQ's). Hoping you can help me out with this issue.

I've installed the game on my Home Desktop and my Work Desktop. But even though I'm playing the same toon on the same server, customizations I've made on one system don't seem to carry over to the other. Is there any way to sync changes on both systems?

There is! You need to back up your UI/game settings and SE actually made an option in the launcher to do that! The method to do is described here: https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/game_...ackup_launcher (the second method can be used to transfer certain UI settings to different versions of the game incidentally, such as PC to PS4/PS5)

There is a third method involving copying and moving the 'FFXIV.cfg' file in your FFXIV installation to a second system and overwriting the default one on that second system, but that's a lot more advanced and only reccomended if you know what you are doing (you could corrupt your FFXIV installation on that second system if you muck up and have to uninstall and then reinstall the game again, so I don't reccommend it, now that we have an official (and simple) means of backing your settings up! (It should go without saying this method is only available with the standalone Windows version of the game, it's not possible with the Steam version, or PS4/PS5 - not sure about the Mac version however).

I recommend using the backup feature in the game itself, not the version in the launcher. That is explained further down at the bottom of the above link. The picture is specifically:

1. Backs up System Configuration, such as graphics settings, sound settings and global macros.
2. Backs up character-specific settings, such as keybinds, hotbars, HUD layout, character configuration and macros.

I recommend clicking both.

Once backed up, go to the other computer you play the game on and Restore the settings.

Hi Enkidoh! I remember you from my last posting.

That 3rd method made me cry just a little bit as I'm not what you'd call a tech person, but the second method is more up my alley. I don't want to carry over the system settings because my Work PC is not really a gaming system, but my Home PC can handle high end graphics. The character-specific settings is super helpful. I'll wait till I get home tonight to carry over those settings to my Work PC.

Looks like you and Enkidoh are my angels of mercy! As I replied to her, I only need to save the character-specific UI settings since the graphic abilities of my Home and Work PC's are so different. I prefer to use my Home UI settings, so I'll give it a go tonight. Wish me luck and TY again!

Haha good guess! And yes it does, in a way... it's how the-then Squaresoft translated 'Enkidu' in the PS1 release of FFV back in 1999.

I chose the name at random a long time ago from an old FFV strategy guide when I needed a new login name for eBay and all my normal name choices were taken. Needing a new and original name I closed my eyes and twirled my hand above the page and then pointed randomly at it, and my finger happened to land on the Battle at the Big Bridge. Naturally Gilgamesh as a handle was already taken, as was Enkidu, but 'Enkidoh' wasn't. It soon was, haha.

And the name has stuck with me ever since.

And you are most welcome, we've all been in the same position at one time or another so providing assistance or tales of our own experiences and how we resolved problems is what this section is meant for!

Weirdly enough I read the Epic of Gilgamesh and how he befriended Enkidu the Wild Man who was tamed by one of the "courtly temple" ladies of the city. And by "tamed," I mean doing the wild thing for seven days straight.

Anywho, I used your and Jeeqbit's suggestion about the character UI and it worked perfectly, so no more reconfiguring my toon with every login -- super helpful.

The character UI settings worked like a charm so no more tweaking my toon's settings when I'm at home or work.

Thanks again. I'm still learning the very basics though my Archer is already at lvl 25. I really love that you can do dungeons with NPC's! I really appreciate this option given my crazy and unpredictable work hours.
