Unable to complete version update [30426][19900][740]

I get back from a work trip with a day to myself and I'm greeted by this lovely message whenever I try to Play the game.

I've found and followed the instructions I found here: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/480176

Which as a side not, lowering your computers security should never be considered a solution. Either way, same error.

I've removed and reintalled the game. Still not working. Open to ideas.

    Greetings Gaisierum,

We're sorry to hear that you've been experiencing this issue while trying to play Final Fantasy XIV Online. The error message you're referring to is most associated with interference with the game data. I'd like to go ahead and suggest a couple of other steps you can try:

Please make sure all background applications (including anti-virus programs such as Norton, Kaspersky, Windows Defender, etc.) have been temporarily disabled and/or closed to minimize game interference before attempting to log in.

You can also try Right-Clicking on the FFXIV launcher icon and select “Run as Administrator.” This option can also be set permanently by Right-Clicking on the FFXIV launcher icon, selecting Properties, then under the Compatibility tab, check the box that says “Run this program as an administrator” and clicking OK.

Within Microsoft Edge, click the "Settings" option on the top right of the browser (under the three dots shown) and go to "Privacy, Search and Services" and go to the "Tracking Prevention" section. Make sure it is turned on and select the "Balanced" option.

Additionally, if any settings have been changed overall, it is best to keep things at default which you can perform manually by using the "Reset Settings" option under the "Settings" tab. Lastly, please ensure that Microsoft Edge is up to date by using the "Settings" > "About Microsoft Edge" option near the bottom left.

We would also like to suggest clearing the patch folder to ensure no corrupted/cached data is interfering with the game data. You may do this by going to My Documents>My Games>FFXIV>Downloads> then from there delete the Patch folder.

We do hope this information has been helpful. Should the issue persist please do not hesitate to contact us back and please provide us with the following information so we can get a better idea of the issue:

    - Error messages (If there are any different ones from the current "Unable to complete version update"):
    - Type of connection (wired or wireless):
    - Has this been a long on-going issue or has this only been occurring very recently:
    - Frequency at which error occurs (If this occurs during specific hours, please provide the date(s), time and timezone):
    - Are there other programs being used when running FFXIV?:
    - What is the ISP and what region/country are you connecting from:

Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums

Yup, same here. Kind of reassuring that many more people have the same issue. On my side it's going through steam and I tried every living solution, including dumping all the game files and reinstalling it again with no luck whatsoever. I saw, tho, that the lodestone is unavailable because of maintenance and I hope it's related to that version check error and everything will be fine in a day or two.

Had exact same issue and finally solved it

Hi everyone, I have tried everything including reinstalling the game multiple times, using vpn, etc.
The last and one of the simplest things that I tried and helped me solve the issue was giving administrator permission on all exe files in FFXIV boot folder.

Go to where your game is installed. For example I use steam so in Steam right click the game name -> Manage -> Browse local files
Now you should see "boot" folder, go into it, in here I right clicked all application files(normal and 64 version ones), do it one by one of course, with the right click menu select properties, compatibility and down below there will be "Run this program as an administrator", check the flag on it. Repeat for all application files in this folder and hopefully it fixes your issue as well.
