TBH I always hated ear pockets in hats when I played a miqo. They just look so weird and baffling. Possibly the only item that pulled it off well was the phoenix riser helmet, with the tiny points rather than fully shaped ears.

That said, I would much prefer cutouts, especially for things like hoods, which don't have a lot of detail to risk awkward clipping with. They should do that for most hats and Viera, too.

I dont get this, is this some weird furry clothing fantasy or something??
My ears are on the sides of my head and toques are made of flexible material so they don't really need to make ear slots as the hat forms around it. However, on headgear made of more solid material, such as baseball or motorcycle helmets, there is space for your ears so that you are comfortable wearing it. You just don't notice it on the outside because human ears don't stick out like a cat's do.

yes there is padding designed with your ears in mind inside the smooth rounded helmets without ear slots.
Your ears are still laid flat against your head, and contrary to your belief, human ears can and do stick out, and cats can lay their ears flat at will, just watch your cat next time they see a bird and go in to butt wiggle pounce mode.

The weight of most cloth hoods alone can lay a set of ears flat...
Not to mention if you make ear holes in a armored helm it just means your ear is getting ripped off the second something hits that helm hard enough to spin it.. for instance the padding in motorcycle and baseball helms, the padding in them is to hold them snug to your head and make it grip you, not to divide your head up and make edges and dividers that can hurt you inside them..

From a design standpoint its possibly the dumbest ideal you could make.. its the same fallacy as say molded chest armor for girls, go ahead and get one of those cavities caved in by a mace and tell me how you feel.

Dude this is a fantasy game with fictional races that have non human traits. If I'm going to play one of said races then I want those traits to be present. Having a piece of clothing completely remove one of those features defeats the purpose of playing the race entirely. That being said if someone does want to have those traits disappear then how about a toggle? That way everyone is happy.

There are so many instances in this game that, if we were to bring real-life logic into this, we would be dismembered, disembowled, smashed to pieces, set on fire, etc. Even with armor. If the Echo is our reason for escaping death, we can use the Echo to avoid getting ears being ripped off. Boom.

tbf you wouldnt hear very well anymore if a miqotes ear get push onto the head. because with how they are they would be pushed down. the whole ear would cover your hearing amd ot would also be very uncomfortable.
and if your helmet spins around in battle... even as a human your going to have more serious problems

Agreed. I wrote a thread some time ago that got some attention on the issue. Feel free to revive it to continue the discussion and increase visibility if you want: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...tain-head-gear

They need to do better when it comes to miqo'te ears, as well as those of other races. For example, in the case of this hood and since it's big enough, they could have our ears drooping down and showing a bit from the sides, or they can simply just show from holes in it. Depending on how they design it, one idea could look better than the other. Since this might not be appealing to everyone, as evidenced in the other thread and the Reddit post, a toggle to show/hide the ears in these cases would appease every taste, just like the current visor and headpiece toggle options.

As the presumably AF gear I hope that piece, at least, gets the attention it deserves.
    My thoughts as well
