What is the purpose of DoH/DoL Scrip gear being unique?

As the title says: What is the purpose of DoH & DoL Scrip gear being unique?

Example of equipment I'm talking about:


My character is currently using this gear and I want to gear up my retainers. The workaround I have to resort to is:

• Taking off all my clothes.
• Throwing them all into my saddlebag.
• Purchasing a new set of gear.
• Equipping the new gear onto my retainers.
• Taking my personal set back from my saddlebag and equipping it all back.

While I have a viable workaround, I just can't think of any reason why these pieces should be unique. What is the harm in removing the unique tag, but keeping the untradable tag like what was done with the rings (so you can hold more than one)?

My honest guess is to not accidentally purchase another item you don't need with scrips. But in your personal use case, I can see that being extremely frustrating. There are a lot of restrictions in this game that bug me to this day.

The ring Unique tag was removed since you wear 2 rings. I wish this Unique tag was removed for more rings. Honestly, I wish unique tags were just gone, period. It's really annoying for maps. Especially since purchasing the extra saddlebag does not get you the ability to hold one more map... Which is another gripe I have.
