Can we get single sign on support for Steam and PlayStation versions like Xbox?

I was looking at the patch notes for 6.57 and saw that the upcoming Xbox beta client will be supporting single sign on (SSO) once you've linked a Microsoft and Square Enix account during the setup process.

The Xbox Series X|S version utilizes single sign-on (SSO) authentication. Once Square Enix accounts and Xbox (Microsoft) accounts are linked, players can skip the login process and launch the game directly.
This is a huge quality of life improvement for Xbox players as they'll never have to manually enter the password and 2FA code for their Square Enix account. This SSO is possible on both Steam and PlayStation with many other games, MMO or otherwise, supporting this feature. It would also be of benefit to Steam Deck or other handheld PC users as they'd wouldn't need to faff about with an onscreen keyboard when loading the game.

They said something about players already having an account to not participate in the Beta, since the way that your SE and Microsoft accounts will be link is irreversible and it could cause issue later on. I have a feeling the way that they are marrying to two accounts to allow the single sign on either is not allowed by other platforms for privacy sake or because it can cause account issues too easily.

Existing players can't take part in the open beta on Xbox as they're only making the free trial available on the Xbox Store, not the full game client. More importantly, linking your Square Enix account to a Microsoft account is permanent so they want to avoid people linking a XIV trial to their main/only Microsoft account. My assumption is that Microsoft are stricter about account linking and single sign on requirements than both Sony and Valve are.

Well needing to enter the One Time Password every login is a good thing, but I think if you have it set up you should be able to just have the game remember your password and account name.

I play on ps4 and the game client remembers both the login and password. Only time I would have any input is using 2fa.

That's how it is with PS5. I can put the PS5 in stand by mode and depending on how long it is I can start it back up and get right back onto the game i.e. the game log in. If it's for extended period I have to redo the account log-in again, but that just requires 1 time pw.

Now that the Xbox open beta is live, it's been tested and the single sign on will automatically sign you into the launcher even with 2FA enabled on your Square Enix account. You still have to press play which is fine as it gives you time to read the notices on the launcher (plus you have to click play a second time if there's a maintenance warning message).

On a side note to this, and something applicable to PS5 users, but the Xbox Series X client performs much better in the native 4K mode than the PS5 does in the same mode... the FPS is much higher and you can hit a solid 120 FPS outside of cities with a crowded Limsa staying above 60 FPS from the testing I've done. The Xbox Series X|S console experience is certainly better than either PS4 or PS5 at this point.
