The issue is the vibe of the job being 'cute with the things they draw' and Krile never really had this side.

It could work, though, if it was an actual character development. Krile learning how to be a bit less serious while training Pictomancy. In fact, even the actual job development would be a desirable thing to see, especially when Krile wants to be more resourceful, but sadly this seems to be something resolved offscreen.

Ideally, for me, Pictomancer's theme could lean a bit more 'neutral' so it wouldn't be so niche. What if my WoL is a brooding artist lol?

People keep saying "Krile has always been so serious" like she didn't make her grand entrance by teasing Alphinaud about his school days, or trick Estinien into thinking she had blackmail material on him (read the side stories, it was hilarious).

Also, she's had a lot of fairly serious things happen to her – her grandfather and most of her colleagues died, her home island is an aether-blasted ruin on the wrong side of the planet, Raha (one of her few surviving friends) was for some time presumed "gone forever" locked in the Crystal Tower, her other good friend Minfilia really is gone forever; while recovering from all of these things she got captured and experimented on by the Garleans, was tasked with caring for the comatose Scions and then had the stress and responsibility of sorting things out in Sharlayan while Hydaelyn urgently tries to get into her head. Plus the whole impending end-of-the-world business.

Right now a lot of that is turning a corner – the bits that can, anyway – as she starts to get the Students of Baldesion back online with support from Raha, Ojika and Erenville. She has a chance to step back and think more about what she actually wants to be doing, and there's nothing to suggest that learning pictomancy is at odds with her character.

This isn't really directed at OP as much as it is to a few of the other comments I've seen, but... I don't think Krile is particularly stoic or serious. She's serious when the situation calls for it, absolutely -- and there's been a lot of that throughout her appearances because there just isn't a shit-ton of levity in the MSQ in general lol. But imo, she has such 'big sister' energy; mature, but playful and sensitive and good-humored. One of her earliest scenes was with Thancred, where she's trying to break the ice with friendly jokes and jabs in the middle of a reconnaissance mission, and she has to tell him to lighten up. She wears a pastel yellow cat-ear hood. She has a side-pony.

I agree that she wouldn't have been my first guess for Pictomancer, and the fact that she would no doubt be the one to pick up DT's new caster job was one of the main reasons I expected something like Green Mage. But... the fact of the matter is that we don't really know her that well yet, and the groundwork is there, laid as early as Heavensward. She clearly loves cutesy shit, and I don't think it's a stretch to say the girl has some whimsy in her -- more than the MSQ usually allows her, but nonetheless.

Just because a character exhibits a more playful side, that doesn't remove the seriousness of their personality. All the Scions, including Y'shtola and Eistenien have broken character to show a lighter side to themselves. Based on this merit, any of them could be used for Pictomancer. Krile's qualifications stem from her being a Lalafell. That's really about it.

This is all very traumatic and Krile's means of coping with her past and moving on from it.

Relm's past is an interesting backstory as well. Iirc, she lost her mother around the age of six, and her father who was later confirmed to be Shadow left her to be raised by Strago, who was a friend of Relm's mother and not her biological grandfather. He did this in order to protect her identity from the bandits who pursued him. Then there are the events that unfold in FFVI itself, which includes Kefka destroying the known world, and the death of Shadow, her father (the player decides if this happens, but I feel this is the true outcome). Suffice to say, the cute and childish nature of the Pictomancer job doesn't exempt them from having really bad things happen to them.

All that being said, the question remains if Pictomancer fits in the world of FFXIV? I don't think it does. It fits in a FF world filled with cute, cartoonish characters like FFVI or FFIX. At least with what we have seen. To fit in the world of FFXIV, it would need to adopt an aesthetic that doesn't make it feel like only a Lala can pull it off.

Pictomancer is going to fit perfectly well into the world of moogle sky-kingdoms, Namazu festivals, time-travelling axolotls and whose oh-so-wise pseudogoddess decided that the best thing to help people through the impending apocalypse was a horde of adorable bunny rabbits of questionable competence.

And I think non-Lalafells will be fine at the pictomancer vibe. Yes, it will probably work best with characters who (regardless of race) suit a cutesy style, but a single character can pull off so many different moods while only changing their outfit, and in any case it's no different to reaper requiring an edgy mood or sage being cool and collected or any other stereotypes you might want to associate with past races.

Personally I'm itching to play around with it on most of my characters, like my cute male Miqo'te and Viera and my very girly Roegadyn; I've also put together a few costumes in advance including some more serious Renaissance artist sort of vibe that will suit my Elezen, so I think it's quite possible to get a glamour look away from the cute style regardless of what the attacks are going to be like.

We can also count from the existing dungeons that there are going to be a range of weapon styles. It needs one to fit in with all the Endwalker dungeons like the Garlean steampunk weapons, elaborate Palaka and gothic Ktiseos.

And ultimately, if Krile only suits it because she's a Lalafell, so what? She is a Lalafell, so it's fine and she'll make it work.

I feel like we aren't going to get voiced Yugiri again after they had her only in the unvoiced Role Quests in Endwalker.

lol yes! I for one am going to have a great time being a magical painter girl with my bestie Krile!

Even though I was expecting Green Mage for her, I think she’ll be great as a Pictomancer. And I’ve been excited to see what they do with her since they said she’d have a bigger role. I’ve always liked her. Definitely leveling Pictomancer first thing after I finish the DT MSQ.

This is actually not that big a change for him, but you wouldn't know this if you didn't start the game in Ul'Dah. He actually started off there as a gladiator before changing to rogue when ninja came out in patch 2.4

If were gonna nitpick out of character forced moments or twists and what fits in the world of an ideal XIV...
    • Estinien - Wears casual shirt, enters my room, then jumps out the balcony
    • Y'shtola - Forcing hard to find her non-existing sense of humor
    • Graha - Serious Exarch turned comedic relief fast-food-enthusiast-fanboy
    • Thancred - Rogue to Gunbreaker cause input history conveniently here
    • Urianger - Strike thy pose upon thine Book facing the Warriors of Darkness
    • Alphinaud - Just everything about how he's introduced in ARR
    • Lyse - I'm the leader of the resistance, suddenly cause reasons!
    • Minfilia - Is just written in cause Booba
    • Zero - is in Endwalker... I guess? Don't care enough to know why
      ( Disclaimer: Personal-nitpicking-opinions )
Krile's main trait is " intellectuality ". Doesn't mean her whole stig is being serious, unlike Y'shtola. Krile is serious when situation demands it? but has shown to have some laughs every now and then. Despite her past? she doesn't carry herself with doom & gloom either. Aside from Estinein? Most Scions gotten a Job swap. Krile since was it HW WHM? is overdo. I think Pictomancer fits Krile more then any Scion with Alphinaud as exception ( + speculation that Krile taught Alphinaud how to paint? )

Even if XIV isn't the cutest FF-game where you'd think Pictomancer belongs more in? it's a world with Namazu/Moogles/Alpha/Pixie/Loporrits... XIV has enough cute stuff to have Pictomancer fit in there if its about cuteness. Does Pictomancer only aesthetically fit Lalafell? No. In XIV everyone can be any occupation or Job no matter how Edgy or how Cute. Pictomancer should be no different. If we can have players be half-naked DPS or a chicken suit Tank? I think we can have a Gold Saucer attired Pictomancer fit in there somewhere, I'm sure.

I just wished Square would have gone the " Eastern Aesthetic " with Pictomancer doing Calligraphy spells and drawing Monsters to attack like in other Japanese Manga / Anime / Games etc, mhm.

    = TLDR: Big-Whoop =
