Thanks for the idea.Square ignores this forum like a plague because we dont congest our threads to megathreads, you'd have better luck translating it to JP and posting it on theirs. If JP backs this up it'll definitely reach them much faster.
I'm aware it's a community problem but that doesn't mean Square has any bend over Microsoft lol. Unless the Xbox side of things is blowing Microsoft out of the water financially, what incentive do they have to fix anything that other games are already using? They're most likely locked into a contract as well so not sure how easily they can go about demanding changes while bound to that.
I'm an Xbox user for games outside of 14 but this is personally the first time I've seen such an uproar over how Microsoft does their subscription services. Maybe I've just been under a rock but I'm curious why that is if true.
It was a terrible mistake to address this issue on reddit. Everyone was replying like a effing idiot and without respect. Well, reddit-like.
I think you'll find that after ten years of trying to get Microsoft to drop the Game Pass requirement, Square finally gave in and made this deal.
Back in the day, they did a deal for FFXI Online on the Xbox360, you could get a free silver membership to bypass the Gold (paid), but not here.
It is unfortunate, but you could still play with your current character by purchasing the PC/Mac/Steam/PS4/5 version if you have access to one or more of those platforms.
Really depends on how much you use your Xbox, but if you don't use it much, you could always pawn it and get a PS5 or gaming laptop/PC good enough to play modern games.
Just saying, as they won't drop the Game Pass requirement.
Imo they shouldve made it so you pay at least a bit less sub on xbox to make up for it...
Hey, my post came back, lol!
The best case scenario is to buy the maximum of all of those subscriptions that come to around $18 USD, which is better than the $23 it would be monthly. At least for me, that is. I pay for the one character per realm subscription. But the whole double subscription thing is still terrible. But at least you have access to Gamepass when you get bored of 14. I'm just saying. I've softened on this listening to other people, but I'm still on the side of why did we need to do this instead of just delaying it until Microsoft let up if and when they ever even would. But I'm glad the Xbox players are happy. That's all that matters.

I enjoy seeing all of the people blaming Microsoft. Yes, Microsoft is a bad company with bad people, and your hardware is sold at a loss with the intent of you buying a subscription. However, Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. needs to acknowledge that not everyone needs to pay a sub fee to fund its mediocre WoW clone. Unlike what the shills are saying, we are not seeing droves of new Xbox players. This is a tiny market. Like how Square Enix can give away the trial for free, it can also waive the subscription fee for Xbox players. The company is still making money from the game sales and the small number of players means that it won't require server resources to host them.
Perhaps this is a great time to figure out revenue streams that don't rely on a subscription, but then again, this is also a dying company that has lost billions of dollars due to poor decisions. FFXIV will likely be this company's swan song before it goes bankrupt.
"SQEX is a dying company that lost tons of money therefore they should let microsoft (a decidedly not dying company) be the ones to earn sub money from their game. But SQEX should of course still be the ones paying for the infrastructure". That's certainly a take.I enjoy seeing all of the people blaming Microsoft. Defending a mega corporation like MS while calling people shills is also certainly interesting. Hypocrisy levels: off the chart

I dont know why people thought this was new. Xbox has other MMOs on it that has the requirement, ESO, DCUO, etc.
I don't think any of those have a required subscription to play. I know ESO is buy to play with optional subscription for perks and DCUO seems to be F2P.
The majority of Xbox players aren't going to care because they already have Game Pass. It's those who don't have Game Pass that are upset and I doubt that Microsoft cares. They want those Game Pass numbers as high as possible to wave in front of investors. MS Investors aren't going to care about numbers belonging to a different company's products/services but they will care about Game Pass numbers.
SSD GANG
that comment used to piss me off so much when i was on console. if you can toss an ssd in your console itll drastically reduce your loads. if that works for you i recommend it.

How could someone own a XBOX and NOT have Gamepass? It's a fantastic bargain for what you get, which is access to a ton of games, some of them big new releases. It also allows you to experience games you would usually never think of paying for.
Plus if you 'game' the system, it's not THAT expensive. When I first got my series X, I used the xbox live trick and got 3 years of ultimate for like $180. To extend that right now I just checked and it will cost me about $110 for another year from buying 4 3 month cards online. Not as nice as the Live trick, but $110 is really not that much for access to all that content for a whole year, especially if you have a decent job.
And as others have said. That gamepass/xbox live requirement for any online playing has been around for years and years. I remember that requirement back when I had a xbox 360. I think only people new to Xbox consoles are shocked by it.
But it's there and you either do it or buy a computer or PS5 if you want to play FF14 some other way.
