I suppose it's the least one could do. But only if it has higher range than /s chat.My idea is simple, make a chat specifically for Advertisements, in WoW Trade chat, at least on my server, is strictly used for trades now, crafters and and buyers looking and asking for work, and the Ads chat is for raiders and RPers respectively. THis solves the issue while freeing up shout chat for it's intended use, and allows people to filter out unwanted RP ads. I also think XIV needs dedicated RP servers for people to flock to. I think making servers have specific purposes will go a very long way with this community.
I don't think you;re getting what I mean. There would be a Seperate Chat for People to Advertise their Venues and People who don't want to see all the Ad spam from Venue Promoters can toogle it off. I'm not saying Limit RP, I'm saying give RPers more tools in the game to create a proper amount of seperation.
It's also why I think there there needs to be RP specific servers, Raid specific servers, PvP specific servers. It allows people who want to play that content to funnel together and makes it easier for people to find groups that work for them.
Then naming it RP chat is disingeniuous, if there is nothing in it for actual roleplayers, and frankly, pointles because it's only selve-serving and makes me doubt the intention of this thread even more.I don't think you;re getting what I mean. All because someone got their panties in a twist over what isn't even spam, and want to sanitize a game that has always had dark undertones and topics if you spent a milisecond in MSQ, starting in the earliest quests in ARR.

or maybe we just leave it as it is because it works fineI don't think you;re getting what I mean. yup that sounds good
hide your shout chat if you cant handle it and it's too hard for you to witness a single advertisement from a single venue every 30 mins to an hour, this is an MMORPG.
It's because people seem to only associate RP with nightclubs and the like, and usually have no idea what they're doing.I will also say etiquette used to be a thing people who did RP kept in mind, such as not approaching randoms and only looking for RP when people have the LFRP sign over their heads, the icon exists for a reason. And of course making people who look for EPR invisible wouldn't help, people in this community have shown for years that they'll seek different mediums, platforms, venues, to get this gratification. But at least for me, I feel like theres also a level of respect and politeness that's so far removed from what used to be a basic concept such as, this is a random person, approaching them in a sexual manner isn't normal.
It's interesting how many people in this thread seem to completely miss the point of this thread being about obnoxious ads. The thread creator had'nt discovered their kid lap dancing in an 18+ venue or anything... They even said they're not against ERP per se, just that it should be in line with the ToS and shouting ERP ads with obvious phrasing in starting cities is far from it. (Another thing some people seem to forget: Limsa is not just a convenient hangout, it's still a hub new people have to run around in the very beginning if they have the respective starting jobs. Not to mention all the MSQ going on there, especially during ARR. Great first impressions.)
I'd be all for an extra tab in party finder for all sorts of venue ads, no matter which ones. Not just to keep the shout chat free for hunts etc. but also because it makes it easier to find an event if you're up for it. Not sure why some people in here seem to be so against it or consider it inefficient tbh. To see a shout ad you have to be at a specific area at the specific time someone happens to shout their ad - on Party Finder, you can check it whenever. Putting ads into Party Finder into an extra tab (so it doesn't clutter the "Other" tab) seems like a win-win situation to me. People who aren't interested in these events don't get bothered by it, kids don't see a ton of +18 club ads while doing MSQ in the hubs and people who'd like to have a nice evening, are looking for a music or art stream or adult entertainment have an easier time to check out their options.
A special RP chat channel would be cool but you still have to be at the specific time and place to see ads. And not every ad is about RP. DJ Whoever would still spam shout chat or the new RP chat because "that's for ads, right?" and we'd have the same discussion all over again.
Regarding telling random people they'd be an awesome courtesan: Yes, you only can have the other's person word for it if they're 18 or not, misjudgements happen and some people straight up lie. But if you are about to talk to sb. about a topic where age matters, double check if that's the time and place for this. (And from what I understood that person didn't even bother to ask?) Here's a hint, general public in some hub is not it, not in a game where everyone can be a minor (and not by sneaking past some age protection and lying but simply because the game was made for them as well). And the whole minor topic aside, I'm a 35 year old woman, if someone stranger would randomly tell me "you'd be a great courtesan for my club" out of the blue, I'd still consider it rude. Only difference to a kid is I'm old enough to expect this to some extent and bold enough to say "No, leave me alone". Do all the ERP you want, and recruit to your hearts content, but please do it in the appropriate places. (Upside of asking visitors of your venue if they want to join: You already know they are into this kind of thing, and don't risk a report. Again, win-win situation.)
