There can't seriously be that many teenagers play XIV at this point? I've been playing the game since I was 17 and the crowd I've met around my age is just non-existent.

I know OP mentions having a 14 year old daughter but there's just so many other problems besides the people on the game. People on the internet are generally just disturbing at times, let's just put it that way. If you're not looking over your kids shoulders when they're using the internet early on then you can't really be surprised at what they find. I had definitely seen and been told far worse than what OP's daughter had by that age and that was with strict parents that attempted to monitor most everything I did online. I still found ways around it for better or worse.

Also, just kind of strange to hear about someone actually going to their parent for an explanation of something. Maybe it was just me or my friends, but you either googled it or asked each other. Going to your parents with something like that is asking for trouble usually.

I'm not defending the community's lack of boundaries but the entire story just feels weird. Either spend more time looking after your kids or just accept that they're going to run into some messed up stuff out there.
Again, in the Venue scene and many sub communities in XIV, you'd be surprised how many underaged kids you find, it's a part of why I stopped working in Venues myself. Too many issues where suddenly someones being accused of grooming, a kid was being an escort, someone was hitting on a kids who was trying to ERP. And it's so quickly sweapt under the rug or brushed aside, or said players change their names that it's ignored and forgotten about and any relevant info one may have is useless now.

A lot of people don't wanna admit to it, but it's a thing. And as much as I would like to think everyone I run into is abover at least 21, it's better to assume it's a minor pretending and avoid any real issues until I can be sure it's an adult I'm talking to, which is also not easy in RP. Now take that, add in venues, easy ways to make gil and young kids wanting attention, with it being easy to get in these places, and bam.

And no one has to believe me, but I know what I've seen and how common place it is.

News flash: history proves over and over again that children are not safe in societies where this type of behavior is allowed

And people wonder why EU RPers organize on Discord away from people. And actually follow some sort of RP etiquette.
They know the characters, the venues, what kind of RP there will be, no one has to pay actual Gil, and most importantly, understand the difference between IC and OOC.

    On tiopic though:
Yes, these ads can be annoying, but all you can do is turn off shout and yell, or move them to a different tab.

I get you the RP spam is annoying but your kid would have more fun in Dinkum or games oriented towards cultivating creativity and coordination instead of Second Life dating sim which playerbase is 90% adults.

In North America, ESRB rates Final Fantasy XIV as T for teen, ages 13 and older.
In Europe, PEGI rated Final Fantasy XIV as PEGI-16, ages 16 and older.
In Japan, CERO rated Final Fantasy XIV as Cero C, ages 15 and older.
in Australia, ACB rated Final Fantasy XIV as PCB, parental guidance under ages 15.

You really don't want her to see "welcome to shadowbringers"

My irl partner is scared to death from clowns because movie she shouldn't see as a kid. If I got home with clown mask, I would not wake up alive in the morning. Not a laughing matter.

    get her out.

Can't sleep if I don't expose my skull and spit fire at people at least twice a day after playing Mortal Kombat on Gameboy as a kid.

I believe you. Wouldn't really have thought, but I'll take you word for it. It's unfortunate, but as someone that grew up on imvu it's pretty much survival of the fittest.
