From this expansion and it's changes, I personally swore off 6.0 SMN and vented my own gripes and complaints about it plenty of times. But I hope that 7.0 it will shift into whatever YoshiP and team had the vision for instead of the tri-disaster mess that it's in. Let me explain.
Summoner's current form comes from 3 points of vision:
1. YoshiP and team incorporating part of FF16's summon elemental imbuing of attacks. Nice on paper, but practice from others have been mixed with the not so happy remarking how boring or tedious it is.
2. Thanks to some people's desire and wanting "how older final fantasy summons played", we have the jankyness of the egis doing their attack until the actual primal forms come up and do their big attack. That'll be relevant at a future point soon.
3. Current summoner still has forms of its past iteration when it was 1 of 2 pet oriented jobs. (The other being scholar). Back then, these pets were killable. Titan was used for solo tanking or doing goofy challenges with friends (all titan run) and we see that with how carbuncle is. It's a sad yet cute relic of its past.
With 7.0, there's hope for more summons. Although it seems like Pictomancer is getting more of the colorful and whimsy favor and getting little creatures to do some attack along with other elemental drawings, I do worry if Summoner might be ignored or worse not even given what I personally think would be the bare minimum of what it should be given for this upcoming expansion. What is the bare minimum? Odin.
Let me get back to point 2 I previously made and how weirdly janky it is that the egi's move over to do their attack until you can summon Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan primals. It shouldn't come to any surprise that their Summon, attack, and disappearing animations are generally recycled from Heaven on High's magicite system. And in Heaven on High is also the Odin Magicite, where he appears, does his slash, and then disappears. If square enix would follow their habit of re-using older things for newer; or in this case, older summon animations, then we should be getting an Odin summon to use. At. The. Very. Least. If not, and no summons at all for one reason or another that they give in a future talk, then it's safe to say Yoshi P left to go get milk, only he's giving the milk to Pictomancer.
I hope I'm wrong come summer in the best way and I'll have to eat these words, but we'll see. Your thoughts?
