7.0 Summoner abandoned job or not

From this expansion and it's changes, I personally swore off 6.0 SMN and vented my own gripes and complaints about it plenty of times. But I hope that 7.0 it will shift into whatever YoshiP and team had the vision for instead of the tri-disaster mess that it's in. Let me explain.

Summoner's current form comes from 3 points of vision:
    1. YoshiP and team incorporating part of FF16's summon elemental imbuing of attacks. Nice on paper, but practice from others have been mixed with the not so happy remarking how boring or tedious it is.
    2. Thanks to some people's desire and wanting "how older final fantasy summons played", we have the jankyness of the egis doing their attack until the actual primal forms come up and do their big attack. That'll be relevant at a future point soon.
    3. Current summoner still has forms of its past iteration when it was 1 of 2 pet oriented jobs. (The other being scholar). Back then, these pets were killable. Titan was used for solo tanking or doing goofy challenges with friends (all titan run) and we see that with how carbuncle is. It's a sad yet cute relic of its past.

With 7.0, there's hope for more summons. Although it seems like Pictomancer is getting more of the colorful and whimsy favor and getting little creatures to do some attack along with other elemental drawings, I do worry if Summoner might be ignored or worse not even given what I personally think would be the bare minimum of what it should be given for this upcoming expansion. What is the bare minimum? Odin.

Let me get back to point 2 I previously made and how weirdly janky it is that the egi's move over to do their attack until you can summon Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan primals. It shouldn't come to any surprise that their Summon, attack, and disappearing animations are generally recycled from Heaven on High's magicite system. And in Heaven on High is also the Odin Magicite, where he appears, does his slash, and then disappears. If square enix would follow their habit of re-using older things for newer; or in this case, older summon animations, then we should be getting an Odin summon to use. At. The. Very. Least. If not, and no summons at all for one reason or another that they give in a future talk, then it's safe to say Yoshi P left to go get milk, only he's giving the milk to Pictomancer.

I hope I'm wrong come summer in the best way and I'll have to eat these words, but we'll see. Your thoughts?

Like MCH shifted after ShB in EW? That's some hefty copium, but I do wish to be proven wrong.

Ignored? No, it's 'fine' as it is. Summoner just had its rework, so it doesn't need anything done to it at the moment. There's also nothing functionally wrong with the job, regardless of how anyone feels about it. I do have my own ... opinions about the job, but it is what it is. Summoner doesn't need another look for at least one more expansion unless there is a plan to drastically change the job within its role. Although Pictomancer won't have a raise, it doesn't mean Summoner is not losing it or something is going to change with DPS raises, we just don't know!

Odin would be an interesting addition, but if I can be a little contrarian, I fail to see where it would fit in the current rotation. Everything is completely 'on rails' to the point where there's not much room for flexibility for anything else. Demi-summons also have their own issues for being same-y and functionally 'weird' due to this as well and adding another wouldn't do much good. ... But I do hope SOMEBODY gets something they want out of 7.0 Summoner though; it's getting pretty bleak for those who aren't happy with the rework.

One of my friends plays Summoner in high end content and says its the most braindead class. There's a lot of recycled skill effects even outside of Job classes. Did you know they recycled the Chrysalis raid wide for Ancient dark used by Hades in the Dying Gasp trial. It was amusing to find that out just today

The biggest issues I have with the SMN rework is that it lacks any true mechanics compared to other jobs. Push button A then 1, 2, 3.
It's like the job was designed for PvP, ran out of time and just dumbed it into PvE play. The burst phase is now an opener, really? Even MCH had more design thought than this and that is saying a lot....

Do I have ideas on how they should improve the jobs design? Of course, but at this point it feels like I would just be wasting my time and energy. The job design for 7.0 is most likely finished and being beta tested. More over, judging from 6.0 MCH (adding a spread shot reskin, additional attack for robo, and line AoE that every RDPS job got), I doubt they'll do any meaningful changes outside of a new spell here or there.

The difference between SMN and MCH is that SE can staple the remaining ARR primals on as a literal copy/paste of the first 3 after Phoenix and the forums will spend the next 6 months raving about how it 'saved' Summoner and the job is now 'so fresh' compared to EW. Flash doesn't last forever though so they'll be in the exact same spot for 8.0.

And it's 100% certain that's what they'll do, they've been offering us big jokes in job changes for ages, and it's even getting worse with each expansion.

Arcanist needs to be adjusted to be a full pet based class, Carbuncle auto attacks included, while SMN and SCH will only add flavor on top of it to establish identity.

Plus an ogcd at 100 that uses a resource you get from going through all six primals. I'm willing to bet that'll be the capstone. Everything will look cool, but nothing will have changed.

Don't worry they've been doing the same with MCH by giving us chainsaw, the AoE air anchor we were denied. Much wow. And I'm not even talking about another finisher in FINISHERS, THE EXPANSION, where we don't know what to add anymore so we'll just add finishers to certain moves, aka crown collider after a series of moves executed by an automated pet, and that I actually thought would be AoE in the previews, but nope. Not even. Battery still useless in AoE. Only thing I kinda like is scattergun and it's not saying much, just makes you spamm hypercharge more (but it's dope in pvp actually and ironically).

It's just flash and glitter. The art fx team is doing great, the battle design team? Not so sure.

Edit: also, another thing that makes me order even more prime copium is the sheer amount of players actually going for the dumbest jobs like SMN and DNC. They're everywhere. Maybe that's what the playerbase wants, and SE is all happy to indulge. Maybe people don't want to deal with job constraints anymore, the only thing they like is playing guitar hero with fight mechanics.
