First off, in regards to traditional man and woman marriages... in many parts of the world, polygamy is traditional.
Secondly, gay relationships are also normal, even if it's at a lower rate than straight marriages. Would you call green eyes normal? Only 1-2% of people in the world have them. That's actually a lower % than there are homosexuals by some studies (roughly .5 to 10% depending on study).
Not only that, roughly 1,500 species of animals so far have been documented as demonstrating homosexual behavior. It's found all over nature, from birds (birds are actually quite big offenders here <_< ), mammals such as horses, dogs, cats, and goats, even insects. In fact, i even wound up having a Dalmatian lyretail molly (type of fish) that was male, and exclusively chased and tried to breed with the other male mollies.
If you truly respected other people's life styles, you wouldn't be trying to restrict them when their choices have no impact on you other than "offending" your "moral sensibilities". I'm sorry, but when rules have to be laid down, morality should have no place in the law making process. This is because morals, while everyone considers them important, are different for everyone. What you view as normal and traditional is not everyone else's idea of normal and traditional. That is why laws should only be made in respect to whether anyone would be physically or mentally harmed. (I'm talking about rape, constant verbal abuse, that sort of thing. not "eewww two guys are kissing, gross!")
So in reality, all of us really are trying to respect what is the norm, and that includes homosexual relationships as well as straight ones.
Final fantasy may be a game that's highly idealistic, but one thing's for sure, it's always taught good morals, such as love conquers all, and personal growth. One example was in FFX, where Wakka initially hated the al bhed and machina with a passion, before he met Rikku and saw their side of the story. He learned that they were people, just like him, and that the machina they used were just tools, ones that could be used for good or for bad.
If SE doesn't allow for same sex marriages in this game, i'd personally be pretty disappointed. Seeing their company cave in to politics would be betraying the spirit of what made this series so magical: that love really does conquer all, and that as people live their lives, they learn more of the world and people around them, learning to accept we are all different, and that those differences make the world wonderful.
Why do you think the crystals factor so heavily in these games? Enormous and beautiful, sentient and emitting a many colored light, they banish the darkness. I personally view the crystals as representing life and existence, with countless facets reflecting infinite shades of light and life. But even though each light and facet is different, they all have the same source of life and love.
I hope that you too, will live your life, learning and growing stronger and more accepting of others. The world could use a little more final fantasy and a little less of hatred.
