* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

As a matter of fact they had one just this year...
ahhh never mind just got more information this year was the last one they are holding due to the laws I correct myself on it.
however, though if I may point out one tiny little thing. that didn't stop SE from putting in Serendipity into FFXIII-2 Which has gambling in it.

I'm all for this. Heck, I'd help out even, if you'd have me, haha!
And wow, all the people complaining about Japan not supporting the gay, even Squeenix has precident on characters that are gay in other games iirc.
(Then again though, the info I found relating to that was on the internet and we know how info-gets on the net work. I fully understand that I may be completely wrong. But even that said, there have really been enough gay characters from OTHER companies in Japan, not just in videogames but in all other media. IT'S A GAME. It doesn't have anything to do with outward laws, unless the outward laws explicetly state that no homo allowed ever. And you can't tell me Japan has a law like this, if it does I would like to read it. :P
All this said though--)
I'm good for either way, GM or Player set up weddings. Player set up ones would go conciderably faster, if nothing else. It would be cool to be able to hold the main cerimony where ever, or hold the cerimony in the cathedral and then move the party onward, as it were, to a area with a lot of meaning to the character's relationship. Or, ya know, move on to mass murdering monsters in full wedding get-up. XD
I like the idea of helping others with their weddings or civilish unions or whatever you wanna call them, if they were even willing to have me involved, haha!

As others have said, an in game girl-girl or guy-guy marriage isn't really real. Sure the real people behind the characters *might* be girl-girl or guy-guy...they might even be gay...who cares. But most are real life girl-guy couples who just want to share that bond in-game. I am in a linkshell with several couples such as this atm. (what is with the kitty-couples :P) So, even if it is true that Japanese society is a little apprehensive about same-sex relationships/marriage, I think even SE can support this type of union in game as again, it IS NOT REAL. No one should care who my lala marries...it's pretend.
That being said, the game already has some storylines that are at least bi-sexual if not gay in theme. SE could have written the CUL storyline any the way they wanted for example, yet, well there's some interesting plot twists and love triangles involved in it. So while yes, it might be too early to say for certain that we can attend the Roe wedding of Gary and Steve, I just don't see it being as far-fetched as some think...especially when you consider some of the storylines and plot points already included in the game.
However, if SE DOES decide boy-girl weddings only, then it would be SUPER NICE if they at least told the playerbase that pre-2.0 as we are able to change our characters then anyway. It would still leave out those who really wish to be same-gender couples...but would allow real life married couples (boy-girl) who rolled same sex characters in game to at least modify their characters to get married etc.
Alright, I'm honestly getting sick of the "it's against the law/unsupported by the law" excuses that keep getting thrown around.
FYI: Unrecognized =/= against the law. Simply put they just don't view your certificate of marriage as legal. Meaning there is no rules against it showing up in the game.Articles 731-737 of the Japanese Civil Code restrict marriage to opposite-sex unions. Same-sex couples are not able to marry, and same-sex couples are not granted rights derived from marriage. Also same-sex marriages performed abroad are not legally recognized in Japan and bi-national same-sex couples cannot obtain a visa for the foreign partner based on their relationship.[10]
In March 2009 Japan Today reported that the Justice Ministry plans to allow Japanese nationals to marry same-sex partners in countries where same-sex marriage is legal. The ministry will issue certificates necessary for such marriage of Japanese citizens and foreigners, the sources said, adding the ministry will soon convey the decision to its legal affairs bureaus across the nation, the sources said. Though the marriage will not necessarily be legally recognised within Japan, allowing its citizens to marry same-sex partners overseas is seen by some as a first step toward eventual legalization of gay marriage in Japan.[11] Also, should this law pass, Japan would be the first Asian country in modern history to legally allow same-sex marriage within its borders.
In the meantime, Japan does have a form of domestic partnership (DP) for same-sex couples. The DP, known as KOUSEISHOUSHO (公正書証) gives many if not most of the rights of married couples, including inheritance and rights to assets of the other partner, the right to full knowledge of the medical condition of the other partner, including medical consultations, nursing care, hospital visits, and rights to healthcare proxy (in the case where one partner is unable to make decisions for his/herself), among other things.
