At this point I am hoping we get some cute wedding apparel.

This is a fine idea if SE can not or will not include all desired coupling. Allow they players to run the shows and give them the tools and resources to make it happen. Add an church organ and allow a player to manipulate it. Give crafters a hand in facilitating the items. Including Western and Eastern theme marriage items. As facepalm-inducing as Rannie and Aster's verbal tennis game is, I think SE should just take the high road and not implement a marriage system, but give us the tools to host weddings entirely on our own. You can then have hetero weddings, gay weddings, cross-faction weddings and so on without pissing anyone off or making anyone feel left out.
Just give us background and source material to work with. I'm talking ring engraving abilities for Goldsmiths, wedding dress, tuxedo, formal dress, formal suit recipies for tailors, Lodestone articles explaining how weddings are run in the three nations (+ Ishgard, too), different types of weddings vows (based on weapon type or job like FFXI does) and so on.
I've attended plenty of weddings in WoW (of all kinds), and it's worked like a charm so...why not here as well? I mean, who knows? It might even give birth to a "Bridezillas: FFXIV Edition" machinima video somewhere down the line.
Also add some "effects" control box to have someone supply graphical effetcs during the wedding. And perhaps supply some 2 person Emotes capable of being used in the cathedral.
If there are enough ways and options for players to team up and supply an ecellent wedding you may soon see...

You may not apply real laws to something fake but the video game itself is not fake. It is a real product based in Japan and servers are in Japan and as we was talking about before they are more against homosexual marriages than they are for it. Certain rules still apply and it may be against those rules for them to implement something like that in their game and give support to it. As I said this may or may not be the case I am speculating based on other facts and very real possibilities. My point is that on this subject you can't really apply real laws to a fake marriage. If I were I hold a personal ceremony with someone of the same sex and declare myself married I wouldn't legally be married and nothing I'be done is technically illegal. You can't apply real world marriage laws to a virtual marriage that is not legal.
I'd agree with others in this thread that they should simply not make any of it gender specific. Neglecting to restrict it isn't the same as supporting it so I think SE could get away with it.
Though the loophole to that would be as simple as I have said before. Give us the means to make weddings happen, clothes, rings, bells and the whistles. Then let the player control it without them interfering.
Again I reiterate is they may possibly have some type of legal reasons they are not allowed to push same sex marriages in their games, whether you think it is fair or not. This may or may not be the case because I am speculating due to related facts from multiple sources. I may be wrong and it may be something as simple as they don't agree with your out look on it and have put their foot down to it. Though unless otherwise specified I cannot say that is the case either.
For some reason I thought Japan would be socially liberal. They seem so progressive in nature. Or maybe its these damn bath salts again...
One of my best friends married his wife in a player-run ceremony. Both of them had rolled female night elves. Interesting times. They even used the WoW RP addons to give themselves the title "Mrs." and both chose to use my buddy's character's last name. *hint hint, SE*That awkward moment when you as a dude picked a girl and so did your girlfriend...
It's not really same sex marriage, but it would be in game.
I'd be pretty sad in this circumstance if I couldn't get married in game to the person I want just because I chose a girl character.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

I'm for gay as well as straight wedding in game. Let people decide their own fate and enjoy the game while respecting themselves and others. I see no harm doing it that way, but I certainly see discrimination, fear and hate when preventing people from reaching equality and happiness, even in game. It's time to grow up and make the right choices. Enjoy the game!

I can support gay weddings in this game for several reasons but the one reason I will share is, who's to say there's a man behind that male player? When I see players I see pixels being controlled by an unknown sex. And I 110% support Duelle's idea about how in game marriages should be. My Wife and I never got married in XI because we heard how tedious the process was.
you're actually quite right there are the male character versions of the trap mi'quote... to be quite honest I'm a woman playing a male character gay as though he looks but I'm a real life 100% certified woman. I'm the trap for women that play as female players in the game.I can support gay weddings in this game for several reasons but the one reason I will share is, who's to say there's a man behind that male player? Yes you're right not all male characters in the game are actually played by men.
I have a secret to tell. From my electrical well. It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells. So the room must listen to me Filibuster vigilantly. My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e. My story's infinite Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest- TMBG Birdhouse in your Soul
A huge THANK YOU!!!! For FINALLY selling the Meteor Survivor Polo on the store. AND a huge thanks to my friend who bought it for me while he was at Fan Fest!!! YES I finally have my POLO!!!
Curious about that. Which quest? Maybe I just skipped dialogs :|
Btw, I hope there wont be any gender requirements, just like the Valentine event.
No need to write it "with bold characters".
Real world laws suck in many countries (hi from Italy!): c'mon, everyone deserves equality at least in a game -.-!
If you dont want gay marriage, then dont have one (irl and ingame).
Lol this made me smile :PThat awkward moment when you as a dude picked a girl and so did your girlfriend...

Guess I know how LGBT people must feel now.
