In-game marriage, will it make a return?

You know I was just thinking I know link pearls are a dime a dozen but even for the marriage they can give you a specially made key item link pearl in or something like that that Pulses when your significant other comes online. It might just be a stab in the dark but I was just thinking about that.

Honestly no one group of people is going to agree on how to handle this sensitive topic, that being the case we shouldn't receive in game "marriage" at all.

I just don't see how it would be possible.

I never got invited to a wedding in FF11. FML

I think they should definitely add it to FF14 at some point.

It should be a really interesting feature too. With unique abilities or affects for married couples. Maybe sharing of items, gil and moghouse. Also they can have a set amount of weddings everyday/week whatever, use it as a gil sink and make announcements with wedding bells whenever it happens in a city.

Immersion, depth, lore and community are my favourite aspects of an MMO. Anything that brings me in contact with other players and makes the world seem as real as it is fantastic, as contradictory as that may seem. Otheriwise I could go play a SP RPG.

Also, cross server marriages please. Because I am pretty sure I am in love with Rokien!!

Not sure how marraige will be handled, but I do remember the valentine event letting us blow kisses and declaring our love to any gender.

So I'm hopeful the xiv team is a bit more open minded and just wants everyone to have fun.

It's not really same sex marriage, but it would be in game.

I'd be pretty sad in this circumstance if I couldn't get married in game to the person I want just because I chose a girl character.

If they just put stuff in there for "marriages" (ie gowns, suits, rings, empty gathering halls, etc..) and let players do what they want with it, that's the best way to handle it. The game shouldn't have any official recognition of marriage, and it shouldn't provide any benefit in-game either.

After all, MMO "marriage" is silly when you think about it... its just a BFF ceremony with some window dressing.

I agree an some people who used to be in my ls are a married couple who met each other online in ffxi started getting together in game started dating on line then in real life and now they're happily married in real life. I believe they married in game too in ffxi I can't remember though.

My point is that on this subject you can't really apply real laws to a fake marriage.

You can't apply real laws in a video game, but you can apply rules and regulations set by the country you're doing business with. If that country has certain rules against x, guess what your responsibility is?

It's how the real world works, even for entertainment. Did you really think developers just simply don't do certain things because they didn't think of it?
