Also if it shows in your information when someone checks you that you're married to so and so (if they did something like that) it is less of a chance for some unwanted attention. It's not that you have to marry someone it's the ability to have that choice.

You may think it's meaningless and if people take it too seriously to be creepy pathetic then, I'm sorry about that not everyone else sees it the same way.
Well you can also go into the whole debate that is their personal information and shouldn't need not be shared with the rest of us. So what if they are going out and play the game as a couple, they can share the same surname and bam guess what you don't need anything else to say it. Surname can represent a familial tie, like my brothers and RL friends who play with me share my same surname, kind of our battle tag.

Actually I think I change my earlier opinion and hope devs waste no time in implementing this into the game, as others have said you can make it yourself. Hell if you want make a LS for weddings and sell them, copy the old script GMs used in FFXI and switch out names. Take time to find in game clothes that would be appropriate for the bride and groom and the guests and craft them up and supply them. Craft up rings maybe some that people don't use often (though I do wish you could sign your name on items like in FFXI). After all that sell it to players wanting to get married for so much gil and hold their wedding for them. Run them through a mock wedding first and then post on the forums if you want and have an open formal wedding or don't post and have a nice secluded version. Hell you can hire guards to kill of roaming monsters that agro in certain areas if you wanted too.

I wouldn't mind seeing weddings come way later in 2.0 when we have plenty of content to enjoy and player housing and all that stuff, but it shouldn't be anything that is put on the table now when players themselves can do what they are asking for. Show some effin initiative and make something come alive and be magical without them having to hold your hand to make it so. Also 2.0 will have more diverse areas for setting stuff up like this, though I can think of several awesome places now.

Just stay away from the mess that was the FFXI wedding system.

On a personal note: In MMO games "Marriage" is really meaningless term.... It's not about starting a family/procreation or even sexual unity... so it's really just what... 'exclusive friendship'? BFF certificate? A way to give someone access to your stuff? (could just share login/pass for that)

So why have them? To celebrate your official bonding with a friend? That's fine, you can do that now without the devs wasting time building a system around it. If the game doesn't have a script running that gives your BBF party a thumbs up, then you are lacking something?? I find it hard to believe that one's emotional well-being is really dependent on a stamp of approval from an AI system, but if so, that person may have some RL issues they need to address.

TL : DR? A MMO "marriage" system is functionally useless and not worthy of serious attention. To the degree that it IS taken seriously, it becomes rather creepy/pathetic.
Ouch, that's a little harsh don't you think?

In game marriage is more of a bit of a social experience than anything else. In some games you can get exclusive fashion/vanity outfits and in others people actually get a small boost from being married.

Some people find it fun and that's what it's all about. That's your functionality.
You may not find something like this fun and therefore it is useless to you but that type of one sided thinking is what will hold this game back. You can't make everyone happy because some people will always find something to be useless and unnecessary while others will find it to be quite the opposite of useless.

Aww, I'd like this in game, I would. It would be fun, if nothing else, so long as they didn't set it up so only male/female can get married. Like a bunch of other people said in here, love knows no bounderies.

Also, if they do put it in they should set it up so the rings can't be discarded unless one does a divorce sidequest or something of that sort. It makes you think hard about doing the thing in the first place if you have to jump through so many hoops to get rid of the marriedness.
Said sidequest should also do it's best to make you feel bad about it or be a massive gil sink, haha, if not both.

Yes to the idea of marriage for more than just the male/female crowd. There is no reason not to allow people to marry as they see fit. Also, yes, to the idea of a divorce quest! Like I mentioned earlier, I think it'd be really cute. XDD

Even though I started this thread and I support the return of in-game marriage, I will have to agree that this should NOT be the devs priority. I think everyone would agree that player housing is definitely more important than this. Maybe further down the line, this could be implemented.

So make it even more fun and do it all yourselves, instead of wanting the game devs to waste resources in doing the process for you. Though I guess going as far as asking them to implement a tux/wedding dress and stuff like that into the game wouldn't be a stretch and wouldn't waste nearly as many resources. Also being able to sign gear, so you can craft low level rings with names on them.

As the OP said, I don't think anyone is saying to implement this now. I think it's just a feature they would like to eventually see implemented in the game.

Clearly, there are far more pressing matters for the dev's to address.

Alternatively, what you suggested isn't bad. The dress/tux could be recipes that weavers can make and the goldsmiths can make the wedding bands. ^^ Although, I still think people would want a little cs or something lol.

In all seriousness though- yes, I'd like the implementation of in game weddings. No, I do not want it to happen right this minute. o.o
