I think that in game weddings would be really cute.
What I'd like this time around is that each race has a unique look to the wedding dress/suit.
They should also make it easy to do cause the FFXI booking/etc was a pretty big pain.

SE changed how you booked/did weddings a few years ago. The wedding GM's went away and it became... well kind of vegas style as Ingolf mentioned lol.
All you had to do was party up with your beloved & have enough gil to purchase the rings, certificate & wedding gear from a treasure chest in whichever city you liked best. If you wanted a more official (feeling) ceremony you had to find your own celebrant from your friends or just not have one at all.
I don't think I would want one quite that easy because I really liked the dialogue of the celebrant GM ^_^;
Also... I remember being in Jeuno one morning when a couple got married at the church there. All of a sudden I heard wedding bells, saw confetti and lots of {Congratulations!} in Japanese as the couple walked out side by side. <3 ^_^
I like that much more then just buying the stuff from a chest somewhere.
Will You Marry Me Camate? :3
I don't think the demand is high enough and honestly the community isn't quite the same in FFXIV. Though I wouldn't be against it if they did decide to bring it to FFXIV. I am all for more options in this game. This was a really nice touch in SE's previous MMO. I remember waking up Sunday morning, logging in to my computer, because I was late to attend a wedding in Sandoria. My brother asked me what I was doing waking up so early, I said, I have a wedding to go to. And my date was already waiting by East Ronfaure forest! She was like, "why are you late?? I can't walk in without you!" We both walked in when the ceremony already started and it was embarassing.
Will it make a come-back? I want to attend more in-game weddings.

I would like to see in-game marriage again. Being married in XI was alot of fun! Even if I don't get married in XIV, I can think of a few couples who probably would.

I'm all good with in game marriage as long as you can divorce and if there's same sex
I have a secret to tell. From my electrical well. It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells. So the room must listen to me Filibuster vigilantly. My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e. My story's infinite Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest- TMBG Birdhouse in your Soul
A huge THANK YOU!!!! For FINALLY selling the Meteor Survivor Polo on the store. AND a huge thanks to my friend who bought it for me while he was at Fan Fest!!! YES I finally have my POLO!!!

SE should just set up an instanced gathering hall (have it cost 50k to reserve it for an hour or so) and let players handle their own events (weddings, funerals, domestic life-partner couplings, crafting competitions, lawsuit proceedings, board meetings, bunny jump contests, etc...)
Just stay away from the mess that was the FFXI wedding system.
On a personal note: In MMO games "Marriage" is really meaningless term.... It's not about starting a family/procreation or even sexual unity... so it's really just what... 'exclusive friendship'? BFF certificate? A way to give someone access to your stuff? (could just share login/pass for that)
So why have them? To celebrate your official bonding with a friend? That's fine, you can do that now without the devs wasting time building a system around it. If the game doesn't have a script running that gives your BFF party a thumbs up, then you are lacking something?? I find it hard to believe that one's emotional well-being is really dependent on a stamp of approval from an AI system, but if so, that person may have some RL issues they need to address.
TL : DR? A MMO "marriage" system is functionally useless and not worthy of serious attention. To the degree that it IS taken seriously, it becomes rather creepy/pathetic.

For me it's just a fun social event with your friends and linkshell mates. And apparently, very memorable if that stuck out after 8 years and 10 MMOs later.SE should just set up an instanced gathering hall (have it cost 50k to reserve it for an hour or so) and let players handle their own events (weddings, funerals, domestic life-partner couplings, crafting competitions, lawsuit proceedings, board meetings, bunny jump contests, etc...)

I wouldn't say it was purely meaningless. How do you know said people aren't dating/married in real life and are playing the game together as a couple. As a matter of fact I know a married couple who play the game they use the same last name as each other and I know they'd probably get married too in the game as well. Also if it shows in your information when someone checks you that you're married to so and so (if they did something like that) it is less of a chance for some unwanted attention. It's not that you have to marry someone it's the ability to have that choice.SE should just set up an instanced gathering hall (have it cost 50k to reserve it for an hour or so) and let players handle their own events (weddings, funerals, domestic life-partner couplings, crafting competitions, lawsuit proceedings, board meetings, bunny jump contests, etc...)

You may think it's meaningless and if people take it too seriously to be creepy pathetic then, I'm sorry about that not everyone else sees it the same way.

Easily achieved with a personal 'check' message (something like the bazaar messages in FFXI)
There are thousands of other things I'd rather see the dev team work on before they even think of building a "BBF stamp-of-approval application and ceremony system" for the game.

that I won't disagree with but we're not clamoring for it right now we're just saying we'd like to see it some time in the game no where does it say in any of the posts to put in marriage right now right this minute. We're just saying we'd like to see it eventually in the game. k thanks byeEasily achieved with a personal 'check' message (something like the bazaar messages in FFXI)
