Software token replacement

I had to remove my OTP to change phones, and when I went to set it up again, the site told me the software token app is no longer used, and I had to use a third party authenticator.
I started the setup for one, and scanned the QR code with my new Samsung phone and Samsung Wallet popped up. I completed the registration, and it worked.
BUT.. To log in now, I have to:

1. Start Wallet (With the Software token app, I'd have the 6 digit number now.)
2. Tap Menu
3. Scroll up to Samsung Pass
4. Tap Sign-in info
5. Enter fingerprint
6. Tap "Manual"
7. Tap the ID I named FFXIV (Displays OTP)

8. Far too many steps, Turned off OTP login.

Has anyone found an authenticator app that matches the convenience of the software token,to get the number with just one tap, and perhaps a fingerprint?

I use Google Authenticator. I just open Google Authenticator and that's it, I can copy the code.

Just use Microsoft Authenticator. Opens right to the code, fingerprint will unlock it.

huh, umm.. i have the SQEX Token app on my phone and have never had an issue, just open it and tell it i want a OTP and type it in. i honestly didn't even know you can use different types of OTP generators with your SQEX/ffxiv account. I like the one mentioned where you can just copy/paste it lol

My previous phone using the old sqex auth app died and it was a PITA to get the OTP removed by support, so being able to back it up is good

This is why its an issue now for the app itself..i just purchased a new token since ill be getting a new phone soon.

Thanks all I tried the Microsoft one first, but it required two steps: Fingerprint, then tap the ffxiv token entry.
The fingerprint was redundant, since I use one to get into the phone, and the extra tap after that was as unnecessary as door opening confirmation dialogs in game

Tried the Google Authenticator. Much faster. Open, and the number is right there. Only downside is that you only have 30 seconds per number. I could swear the SQEX one gave me a full minute.

One odd thing is that the apps themselves wouldn't read the QR code on my Samsung S24. They show the camera view with alignment frame, but did nothing, and had no capture buttons I had to use the phone's camera app, which then prompted me for which authenticatorr I wanted to use the capture.
If you keep a shortcut to the game on your Windows desktop, it's a handy place to hide the emergency removal code. Right click the shortcut, select properties, and paste it into the comment line. When I copied it from the SQEX page, it came with a couple embedded carriage returns that prevented the paste, so I had to paste it into a text editor and re-clip just the code.

Personally, I'm a fan of the physical token. I got the original from FFXI and I just replaced it last year (so I think it was 12-13 years old?). I keep it on a badge pull on my monitor. My PC isn't going anywhere... but my phone is. Maybe it is charging (and not near me). Maybe I left it in the car. Maybe its somewhere other than where I play FFXIV. The headache of the software authenticator if you forgot to take it off your account before you factory reset or otherwise lose/sell/break your phone... the $12 token is a "no-brainer" for many (not all) FFXIV players.

However, if the software authentication is someone's preferred method, have at it.
