Thoughts On: New Crafting Job - "Enchanter" (also new gearing option)

New crafting job that creates "enchantment" materia for a new "optional" slot on all gear or some gear?

Enchanter's can craft materia plus items to create special materia with "dual stats". Think combining Crit with Determination. Or, effects.

Maybe, alittle less contention, glamours. Creates simple effect like weapon and armor glow's.

Alittle more, utility. Increasing specific enchants to boose timers on GCD's?

no. anything like that would upset game balance. if they're making changes to anything for timers for gcd's they would just adjust those as part of job changes.

    pointless

He's right. What would this actually accomplish? "Dual stats" with single materia? How is that different from what we have now with 2 materia slots or overmelding? Boosting GCD? As in quick arm and tongue materias already in the game?

And all for more glamour options, but locking them behind a specific extra special crafter job is the last thing the glamour system needs.

It is not to say the OP's idea is a bad one. It just won't happen in FFXIV.

Everything in the game is formulaic, especially when it comes to gear. Main stat and Vitality are always "locked in place" based on iLvl. Ilvl also dictates the sum total of sub stats (with a few exceptions, such as relic weapons). You can pentameld crafted gear, but not tomestone gear or augmented crafted gear. The highest iLvl gear at level 90 will be replaced around 96. The same way level 80 gear would be replaced at 86, 70 at 76, etc.

So many aspects of the game are formulaic, not just gear. But, that goes well beyond a single post.

If you think this game is "balanced" can I have some of what your smoking? They other argument why do something new when something old already does it? Okay... why have viper? when it's just another sword job? Why have pictomancer, when you already have blackmage? etc, etc.
I'll grant that I didn't explain my new job well and poorly worded it all. I really didn't have a clear idea myself. Other than a crafting job which "enchant", but after I started writing I forgot about materia already existing and potions. My idea was about a static enchantment which didn't step on the toes of those two ideas. I actually would support returning "strong" potions that do Dot or status damages to enemies.

Another way of looking at it, use the eureka system of buffs/attack "outside" of eureka/bozja areas using "enchantments" that plays craft and another dispensible. I think this like Eureka could off the little bit of varation based on players "styles" and will make 3 blackmages, play 3 different ways. It just might add enough spice to make things refreshing? After all if you look at FFXI with subjobs, while there might be maximum use combo, a single player could switch subjob to make the game feel fun again to them.

subjob concept does not work in XIV. the job design does not allow for it. instead of sub jobs, they just have different full jobs instead.

The ideas could be fun but they would need to be in another game. It would take an extreme revamp of the battle systems in this game before your ideas could work and SE is highly unlikely to invest the time and money to do it.

There would also have to be more than just special materia to create these subjobs you suggest. That would mean their job design team having to work on double the number (or more) of jobs that we've already got. They don't have enough developers on the job design team to handle it (and just hiring more almost never works out the way players expect).
