That's an interesting speculation. I have about a third of regular commanders blocked. It honestly makes little difference if they're playing DRK, since I can support them perfectly well without the chat spam. (In fact I'm far more likely to miss a genuinely useful shout like a pinch warning because it's buried in a mess of condescension and 3-2-1 macros.) But the point is it's perfectly possible to lead a team without being condescending, and spamming chat to the point it becomes perilously close to griefing.

FWIW the silent commanders are a rarity, so I don't think people are being driven to that option because of push-back. It seems to me the chat spamming is a central part of the "performance" that some of these commanders like to stage. It amuses me how little impact these call-outs have on the outcome of the game. It's the DRK+ premade pulling the "ducklings" behind it that does the damage, not someone with a Napoleon complex in chat.

If it your freedom if you decides to mute the Commander, but it doesn't mean these calls are useless.
They are more intend for casuals that joined Frontline for the EXP.
You don't need it, just don't pay attention to it; however, these calls are useful to prevent Randoms running around like headless chickens

I would agree, there are definitely useful ones- examples- someone can warn of an incoming pinch, or point to a specific objective.

However, there are some commanders who spam "commands", to the extent that the chatlog gets filled. That doesn't help anyone. Nor does filling the chatlog log with a stream of sound effects, that can be more distracting than helpful, especially if someone is new. Now I'm talking about extreme examples, however they do exist, and there are probably sufficient numbers of people that created support tickets (in general) so that a mute function was added.

There are commanders who use chat appropriately and others that don't. I think it's helpful to let the latter group know that, by their excessive chat and rudeness, many people are muting them. From what I can gather, however, they don't care.

I'd be interested to know what's considered chat spam on NA.

JP commanders do tend to fill chat very fast when they're calling for a burst or when they spam the disengage macro to make sure everyone knows to get out. I don't see anyone telling them to shut up and stop spamming chat, some people even thank them for the direction they gave when the match ends.

The differences between regions are interesting.

You will be surprised how many macro sets for JP/CH/KO commanders out there
IF you watch their video/stream, the main chat is reserved for commander only
Also, players takes TOS too "literally"
If GM sees chatlog where all lines are Frontline related command, they are not going to do anything.

Many I know are moving towards it. It just makes more sense to use people who don't bother listening as bait and make the most out of them with the squad that will.

It's not as effective as leading from the front, but it's an option to at least have a fighting chance against enemy commanders, and probably still beats uncoordinated groups with similar success.

As for the JP mindset, I still believe we're moving closer towards that. Just need more and higher quality commanders till the majority of games have one rather than don't.

I've had both on EU and I'm generally a minimalist commander, essentially doing what everyone could be doing on their own and warning for sandwiches or calling to flank an enemy team. Or sometimes writing a mark on the map where to go. I've had once or twice a couple of players complaining it was useless and they didn't like it, but every time I asked I've had at least a couple or a handful of people saying that they appreciated it and found it useful.

Complicated sets of macros imo are totally useless for 95% of the FLs playerbase because they wouldn't know what to do with them. The more you spamm into a rigid set of actions to follow, the more people will be lost. On the other hand perhaps people need to be exposed to it so much that they'd follow, but then I'd question if they are experienced enough to understand the whole process, do they really need such an intricate set of macros in the first place beyond a salted earth or engagement timer?

Here's an example- send a command - it could be that you "LB is up" or "run!" or "pinch!". Now send the same command 10 times as quickly as you can, potentially with a sound effect.

I have yet to see anyone ask them to "shut up", as anyone has been far more polite. However I very much doubt that spamming like this is helpful, I haven't seen in done by any skilled players in any other game, any I have yet to see anyone thank someone for spamming like the case above. Also- in those other games- which were designed for PvP- chat was reserved for the lead(s)- but that's a completely different type of game- then we're talking premades, and everyone in the alliance adheres to certain behaviour or gets kicked. I don't see that discipline happening in FL in NA.

Now- when someone doesn't spam, it's a far different story, they do get thanked and/or given commendations.

Oh I agree that spamming one same line 10 times in a row is stupid and helps no one, but I have also seen people consider a 3-2-1 burst countdown macro as spam, so I'm just wondering what's generally considered as spam on NA.
