What if: Starting with Dawntrail, everyone starts referring to the WoL as they/them?

I would be against it. I am a gay man who is both male in the real world and in favour of playing men in video games. I expect my characters to be referred to as such and I have no interest in eroding away outright references to either men or women.

Basically same, gay male who plays a gay male character and wants to be referred to as a male in communication with my character and myself

I don't think people would have cared if it started out that way. But given they've spent 10 years personalizing the pronouns to your character, to switch to they/them now would make them look cheap and lazy.

I lean toward the latter since their RP profile comes up in Google and it was last edited back in 2019 and the OC has lesbian as their sexuality. Looking at the lodestone the character doesn't do much outside of RP by the looks of it. However, they only started posting again during the VA debacle after two years of inactivity.
