Big safe in town

Noob question but there is an iron safe with gold on it in front of market board in Ul'dah Steps of Thal. Does this serve a purpose or it is only city decoration?

If is one Mao thinkings of, is FC safe whats all FCs able to use to access storage for thems FC.

Most likely a Free Company chest that Free Companies can use to store items/Gil/etc

Yeah that's the Free Company chest - if you create a Free Company or join one with the chest unlocked, you can use it to store items, crystals or gil in it, it's basically a player 'guild bank' in other MMOs. It's also found inside each Grand Company HQ, and if a FC has a house, they can also set one inside it as a furnishing.

Either way, if you join a FC or create one, you can access the chest storage function from any chest you come across.

Fairly large tangent, but I wish they mixed up their safe and feature designs. For example one city might have a bank teller, another a wishing well, another this thing, a dragon hoard might be in one of those dragon owned areas (almost communal looking). Etc.

I know it's for quick spotting but I can read a map or talk to a guard lol. FFXIV's inter-dimensional standardization committee is mega powerful .
