Wuk Lamat is the worst and most annoying character ever in this game

"New character bad" is basically the mentality. People do it constantly when there was a new one, I'm sure if you look far back enough you'll find people complaining about say Yugiri or Sadu. I mean, people did that with Varshahn and now people use him as an example of good VA to bash Wuk Lamat.

I mean I liked zero to start with but didn't really like the direction they took her at least to me it felt very rushed, varshahn is fine to me, the stormblood far easten cast were actually really well done as well, I do think people are just bias about new characters in a way, If I'm honest I didn't like the Scions in ARR but those opinions are meant to grow over time, I don't believe we even have enough time with the new character to form opinions outside first impressions.

New character is bad mentality leaves the older cast members to always play main roles in the story, which I think is somewhat the issue, as the scions in general have been a bit over used (which it's fine that they're still in the story, but I'm glad that theirs actually going to be more focus on new characters as it seems). I'm clear with the fact I think the story needs to depend less on them.

I don't mind people speaking and giving differing opinions but it really feels like people just want to be mad for the sake of being mad at this point.

If I met an adopted prince or princess I'd expect them to be cocky like Wuk Lamat is. It kind of checks out. I don't have a problem with her personality even if some of her antics are a bit cartoonish. The VA is also average, I'd expect a foreigner to speak inconsistently as normally that's how foreign people talk. I wouldn't call the VA great, but I don't mind it either, I could obviously tell they were not from "Eorzea" whereas Hien from Doma spoke so well he didn't feel foreign to me outside his clothes.

Man, I remember this one character that showed up a bit in the patches just before the expansion they were mainly showcased in. People were sooooo annoyed by them. Overreacting garbage. Theatre-boy. So hammy. So CRINGE. Oh...what was that character's name again? Jeez, I just can't remember. Well. I'm sure everyone was right about it and they ended up being a totally forgettable character in the expansion they're featured in, if it wasn't for the sheer burning hatred people possesses for them this day.

I usually do not like Graha, but he was somewhat bearable in 6.55. He seemed a lot more subdued and more like his crystal exarch side, and that was preferable to the incessant fanboy gushing in earlier chapters.

As for Wuk Lamat, I'm neutral. I barely know this character. And that's kinda what makes the plot surrounding her seem so rushed and stupid, like ... some lady we don't even know just pulls up and asks us to tip the scales so her group can gain power in a country we've never even been to. And when we ask for more info, she basically tells us "my side good. other side bad" and we just nod and agree. Followed, of course, by a post-credits fanservice sequence of scion characters signing on to join up. If the job of 6.55 was to hype me for Dawntrail, it didn't succeed at all for me.

The deeper we get into this, the more I feel like the Zero arc was such a mistake if it was going to be self contained. We could've had a slow boil of rising conflicts escalating from that region, originating from that guy who Wuk is so opposed to. In 6.1 maybe we could've dealt with them stirring the pot in Garlemald or something, idk, and in 6.2-6.5 maybe we're just constantly dealing with seemingly unrelated skirmishes and international incidents that keep leading back to this mysterious warmonger in a region we've never been to, and with each update the casualties rise and the conflicts escalate and there's mounting pressure to figure out who's the madlad behind it. And THEN in 6.55, we meet Wuk who reveals that she not only knows who that man is, but that he's vying for the throne and she's actively opposed to him and needs our help to prevent him from obtaining more power. And this way it doesn't feel like we're just trusting some stranger and rushing into a conflict that barely concerns us. Idk, it's just a thought. So much time was spent on Zero and on exploring her doomed shard, and for what? Watch it never get mentioned again. We could've had a buildup into the next expansion instead. I keep wondering who's in charge of this game's story pacing because it's so hit or miss. Post-shb was great from 5.1-5.3 and then fell off hard leading into EW imo. And all of post-EW was just a huge miss imo and failed to setup 7.0 at all. I wouldn't even care because "imagine expecting good storytelling in an mmo," except they keep branding FF14 as an FF game first and an MMO second, so why is the writing so weird here? I've played other FF games and they can pace themselves really well and tell an engaging story. This right here, feels like a Naruto filler arc. It's just unrelated stuff happening until something new comes along to happen and at the moment it feels hella disconnected.

Didn't mean to go on so much. I think Wuk has potential to be a very interesting character but I don't think the writers in charge of DT will utilize her well at all and I don't think there's going to be any setup or payoff in this expansion if post-ew and 6.55 are any indication. I wish to god they'd just put Ishikawa in a room and let her cook up some more of that DRK kino only for dawntrail instead, because she can at least craft an interesting lead-in and a satisfying conclusion. We already got an introduction to our opposition and we just kind of agree to help Wuk based on hunting with her once and deciding that she's a nice person. Kinda grim if this is how the rest of DT is gonna go. Of course, there's always room for this to change. Many many jRPGs will establish a status quo only to turn it on its head (hell, final fantasy 10 does this; 14 does it too, quite often) so I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just not hopeful based off of the last two years and seeing who's in charge of the writing for dt.

The mord/kobold voices are the actual worst/most ill-fitting in the game. Second place is probably the British samurai pirates in the ruby sea. Third place is Fordola.

It's entirely just people complaining for the sake of complaining. It is literally not that bad. People act like this literally every time there is a new character introduced.

No, I actually quite liked a lot of the new characters such as:

Aymaric (who Wuk Lamat is representing for the expansion of Dawntrail)
Hien (I love FF6 Cyan, and Hien was still enough of his own character besides)
Gosetsu (Why was he not part of the EW MSQ finale?)
Asahi (Really fun to hate, intentionally written well for this exact purpose)
Ardbert
Emet-Selch
Feo-Ul
Arenvald

Just the few off the top of my head. Then Fandaniel comes around and I don't like him at first, but wanted to give him a fair chance to see if he would act more like Kefka and be cool. Too bad he only shoe horned a forced and rushed end of a good story and never developed further. He had such great potential, being Amon, but didn't live up to it. From him, everything spiraled further and further down. The writing and overall game direction plummeted. We went from watching an outstanding multiple season show that spanned for a decade to YouTube Shorts real quick.

I thought Graha was the most annoying character in this patch. He had these moments where he just became a tool of the writer for lore building.

"Am I correct in assuming you are old friends?"
"What inspired this change? (to Krile)"
"Why do you want to participate in the contest? (to Krile)"
"Is it appropriate for outsiders to aid you?"

A lot of his conversations did not feel organic. It felt like Graha was reading off bullet points someone wrote down to organize the plot
"Don't forget Krile needs a motivation...". Krile's in particular were so odd because the devs have already harped about Krile's motivations so the moment didn't feel emotional at all.

As far as voice acting, the worst line performed in the patxh is Thancred. At the very end he says "Oh how could I possibly be, knowing what's to come?" and it sounds very off.


But please carry on about Wuk Lamat.
