She didn't criticise the performance. The harshest thing Sena said is that she isn't a trans ally and while I personally think it's asking a lot for a VA to make that kind of sacrifice or you're "not an ally", Sena clearly feels otherwise. Her tweets give the impression this has been an ongoing thing so maybe the passage of time affected her disposition. She also tweeted a bunch of other roles to give people an idea of just how widespread the issue is and I was personally very surprised-- I had no idea. I'd imagine if that is your life and something you're passionate about you're going to feel strongly about it. Again it was also Trans visibility day, Sena also tweeted that one studio she was a part of blacklisted and blocked her when she asked them why they didn't even offer two trans roles to any trans actors. I would imagine she was feeling dejected. Combining all of these factors Sena is going to be more sensitive to the issue than you or me, and may be less reasonable.
The worst mistake the transphobes made was finding the tweets becuase the thread itself gives you all the context. It wasn't even targeting the actors but the magnitude of the roles, as Sena makes clear. Hence trans visibility. There's more visibility if trans actors are in these popular roles of trans characters.
I will also repeat again whether it's intentional misinterpreting of events or not, thank goodness trans people have some representation and protected speech because if all we had is the heteronormal perspective we would be drowning in mischaracterizations, fallacies and stoicism.

I love the fact that your profile picture matches the tone of your message. Ya know, the "little angry bean" energy.
(Dude, chill)
I appreciate the clarification and understand the accent might be authentic in some places. I spent many years working in Vegas, too, and have heard many accents from the region. My concern was that the voice sounded unnatural because, to me, the accent sounds "fake". It's a bit like if I were to push my voice into a different pitch (say going from my normal contralto range to a soprano range) while also faking an accent. For example, if I tried to put on a high-pitched Russian accent, I would sound silly. That's how this vocal performance comes off to me. It might be because I have heard similar real accents and my ear just tells me that the performance sounds inauthentic or forced. The voice performance might have sounded better if the writers, audio team, etc. had come up with a fantasy accent instead of trying to mimic a real one, but of course that would have taken a ridiculous effort and might not have been worthwhile for an update.
I am surprised by how much people are talking about this, though, out of the rest of the update. Questionable voice acting in games is nothing new (the classic Resident Evil on PS1, for instance)!
"Your character seems angry" = insult a character's appearence ?!
Please. It would be problematic if I was saying their character had an awful design, or something like that. Saying it looks quite angry (and it DOES, like your character seems pretty joyful, or mine seems overly serious) isn't an insult.
The video game industry is placing increasing emphasis on this aspect, which might explain the attention paid to dubbing. When gems like BG3 are released, with voice actors as good as those hired, the comparison can become harsh for games that don't have the means / don't make the same efforts in this area.Questionable voice acting in games is nothing new (the classic Resident Evil on PS1, for instance)!
(This is not to say that I personally find this actress particularly bad, just to clarify. Let's just say that in a game like FF, where the dubbing is sometimes uneven, it doesn't really stand out. ).

They are ! The narrator is incredible (she also dubbed in Kingsmaker, and in Wrath of Righteous). Such a good actor, I love her.
RDR2 was really good as well in this aspect, even if the game itself has some pretty serious problems IMO. Anyway, to stay on the subject : this is quite new, and since the game industry is becoming more and more cinematrographic in its inspiration, this evolution is pretty normal.
Yes, you're belitting him and his argument and using his characters appearance to do so."Your character seems angry" = insult a character's appearence ?!

Thanks for the response. People will like or dislike certain vocal performances and that is obviously fine. And I agree the attention this topic has garnered seems way out of proportion. The very title of this thread baffled me, largely because claiming anything is the "worst ever" after a handful of cut scenes is hyperbolic at best. Characters develop over time, as both the writers and the actors better understand them. Hopefully that evolution will be more pleasing to the community.I appreciate the clarification and understand the accent might be authentic in some places. I think this is a common mischaracterization-- that what is being asked here is for "inclusivity" (a word I haven't used one time). That would be arguing for hiring trans people just for the sake of it. Here we have a case where someone is asking for roles to be represented by actual trans people because the characters are trans...not because they "deserve" but because theoretically an actor can't just wake up and be trans ans may even be anti trans. Acting is predicated on playing roles you aren't-- like playing a teacher, a doctor, or a historical figure. Once you get into representing particular cultures, groups, nationalities, religions etc it can be strange. I don't think Sena is calling for strict "every single trans character must be voiced by trans" here but rather, once again, using a day of Visibility to call attention to a lack of major roles that feature characters who lean heavily into the trans identity that aren't actually played by people with a trans identity. And voice acting is not just about the voice-- that is insulting to the art form.
I personally don't care at all about this. Trying to cast me as woke is a waste of time. I like the character and the VA-- the rest of it is how I analyze the situation based on the tweets and it just seems to me many interpretations are overly emotional and driven by bigotry.
