Will Race Specific Gear Be Dyeable?

The sense of uniqueness among the races has been pretty weak in the game up till now, and there hasn’t been much to draw associations with or to symbolize each of them. But I think there has to be some kind of unique identity for each. I mean, these are your avatars. They are you in-game, and that’s saying something. So we’re going to be taking care of that identity issue in version 2.0.
This is probably already on the table over there at SE, but I just wanted to make sure it was officially requested by the community as it would only make sense to allow race specific gear to be dyeable (keeping in line with player uniqueness from the start). Better yet, we should also be allowed to choose among some basic colors for our starter gear at character creation.

I was actually coming here to post this very topic. Thank you for doing so.

Personally I liked the choice they originally made with starting gear, where it doesn't look all that great. I don't think they should have called the clothing "weathered" ("simple robe" is an example of what I would have named them), but it makes sense that lvl1 gear doesn't look all that great. However, the outfits shown here make us look more like we start as civilians instead of drifters, which is fine with me.

In the case that we are civilians, I think it only makes sense that we'd at least have custom colors for our starting gear. Otherwise it looks like all members of the same race wear a uniform when they begin walking the adventurer's path. Also, I like how the outfits look, but they shouldn't be more attractive than the stuff obtained at, say, level 10. Can we expect more than grays and browns at low levels?

I agree that starter stuff shouldn't look more epic then high level gear however: I have a strong belief that if this is how starter gear looks...perhaps the higher level stuff will be even better

Honestly, I'm done with the idea that starting gear should simply be some monochromed "poor man's" gear. These new depictions show us that Yoshi really thinks highly of new players and should start off with some class. I understand the scale at which low level gear should contrast against higher level gear, but starting every beginner off with khaki colored rags isn't my idea of starting my long journey strong.

Giving players a sense of beginner's pride from the get-go is a great way to affirm the quality in their decision to play the game, and additionally adds a sense of immediate gratification and curiosity as to what later gear will look like at higher levels. Playing around with basic colors from the start will further emphasize a bit of uniqueness amongst beginners running around together (not to mention a good early introduction to color customization options).

Yeah. I'm glad they made the starting gear look more "civilian" than what we see at higher levels, but at the same time the crafting gear will have to look more impressive later on. Like how you go from being a simple cotton-wearing shepherd, to a coatee-wearing craftsman, to a gown-wearing noble.
