Very brave. But always a waste of time, because most things when it comes down to opinions on xiv go exactly like this;
"I didnt like that"
"WELL YOU SHOULD HAVE!!! HERES WHY-"
And then its 50 pages of one person per page saying 'I didnt like that either' with 10 more responses jumping up and down, screaming, and crying hysterically about why they actually should have. Lol. Don't know what it is about xiv, but no ones allowed to not like anything about this game without people freaking out and making weird accusations. If I said I thought the new world burritos put into housing looked awful (which I do), I'd probably get told that actually those are the best digital burritos they've ever seen in their life, and furthermore, that I'm super duper racist and just opposed to any ethnic foods being in game and that aaccshhually its funny how I didnt have that same complaint about any of the cheeseburgers!!!, all that despite being a latina who regularly makes those myself. Yeah..its because im a bigot or something. Ok. Anyway I still dont like it, the end. Lol.

I really enjoyed the voice work. I thought she was energetic and fun. Kind of reminded me of Hange and Sasha from Attack on Titan. Seems like an enjoyable companion for another adventure. Wuk Lamat and Erenville have a good double act going on, and I look forward to more.


As for the reason "criticism" is coming off as disingenuous is because people keep claiming that other voice work as been subpar but you don't see threads about that. Where the 17 page thread about G'raha Tia sounding tired and totally checked out this patch? Where's the threads about all the other voice work people are saying is subpar? Nowhere.

People are dog-piling on this one voice actress. I would ask why that is, but...

Yes, all negative criticisms of the work of trans folk can be summed up to transphobia and bigotry. There could never be any valid reason to criticize the actions/performance of any trans/gender fluid person other than their gender identity. Surely categorizing an entire group of humans as unable to handle mild critique and categorizing their entire humanity around their gender identity couldn't be ironically transphobic at all!

I was waiting until I heard the quests for myself so I had context outside of the trailers and clips online.

She is terrible. She can not hold the accent for more than a couple words at a time. She falls into a script reading monotone at multiple points, and at other times she has audible stage fright. It's like they brought a VA back from the ARR days. Yes, there are people who hate her purely for being trans. But trying to dismiss all criticism of her acting as transphobia is willful ignorance.

I'm going to echo the need for an acting coach, but I don't blame her. She's trying, I can give her that. But her lack of experience is obvious and jarring and it seems like the localization team weren't as accommodating for a novice as they should have been. Were these TRULY the best takes they could get? Someone decided these takes were good enough and then put them in the game, they're the ones who shoulder the blame for their implementation.

I feel like she could be a good match for the character if she were simply better at acting. Purely a matter of experience. Of course I felt that way about many of the ARR actors (Merlwyb) but SE tossed them pretty quick when the budget went up.

To be clear, I don't actually care. I was here for ARR, and enjoyed that just fine, acting and all. But if this is going to be a big controversy, I feel obligated to give my input as I see it as well.

Edit: Upon further reflection, and to more clearly illustrate the problem, during emotionally intense scenes like her scream of terror at the giant colibri, she does well. It's during casual conversations that she occasionally falls flat. It's a consistency problem, really, and that's why I think it can only be solved by more experience and quality control. She CAN do it, but she needs a few more goes than it seems they're giving her.
