Wuk Lamat's Poor EN Voice Acting

Thats very much a no no. I will forever be on the stance that a VAs country or rep shouldnt be the deciding factor for hiring VAs to voice characters. Its like saying Phil Lamar; a black dude shouldnt be voicing an ancient Japanese swordsman.

However this also doesnt deter from my other stance that the performance was fine. Which it is.

They were hoping that this was the NA forums that people would just not know or specifically they just didn't know because everyone makes jokes about Yuyuhase. The truth is most Lalafels in the Japanese voices are as diverse in accent and mannerisms as they are in the other languages.

I don't want to rush through MSQ, but I did the first couple scenes with Wuk Lamat and she sounds fine. Actually, I thought her performance during the hunt mission on the island was great and very expressive. I enjoy the character's lively personality as well, it was hilarious how flustered she got about the giant colibri trolling her.

Then why bother at all with accents, if it seemingly doesn't matter?

So different areas can still have distinguishing characteristics and characters from those areas would be recognizable. Like the Ala Mhigan example. It's not a direct correlation with real life location, but when you hear an Ala Mhigan in the game, you can tell exactly where they're from. Or you hear someone like Erenville and while it didn't identify location, the Icelandic accent does trigger a cultural identity of being a Viera.

I think they've been careful not to have a 1 to 1 correlation exactly so we don't end up having arguments like this and instead make these associations in game based on the distinguishing characteristics they establish there.

That was great! Here she is facing down angry tough mobs and the thing she just can't even with? A giant bird. It was one of those endearing little traits like Ysayle finding the moogles adorable.

I thought her voice actor was fantastic. I honestly fell in love with the character instantly, especially her chemistry with Erenville. G’raha on the other hand… you could tell Johnathan Bailey has grown tired of this role. The whole patch he sounded droll and even a bit exhausted. Wouldn’t be surprised if they were recorded between takes of fellow travelers. Dissapointing considering his beloved character seems to be taking a back seat going forward and this is the last we’ll see of him.

I’m surprised that there aren’t more threads about his lackluster performance, considering there should be much higher expectations of him as an established FFXIV VA, rather than snap judgements on a character we’ve only known for three quests.

Spot on.
People forget that localization and the fact that one community gave Accents to random races in the game, doesn't have much to do with a VA performance.

it's all just strawmen from those who have a bone to pick against this VA for either. Their own perceived notion, or mismatch of the character. Or dislike of the characters attitude/person. (and unfortunately the fact she is who she is outside the game.)

Her personal beliefs aside.
(cause let's be honest, typecasting VA's cause of their origin to only play certain roles is ridiculous and harming to overall quality.)

But has brought out some great localization regardless.(Cause it always follow the story, and intent)

Yet we have some making arguments against Wuk Lamat, who for all intents and purposes. At Minimum met her intent when localized.

I agree that G'raha sounded super off here, and it's really weird. Ain't no way it's the last time we're seeing him though, he's by far the most popular character in the game at the moment. He was also in the trailer for the expansion.

I don't think the VA for G'raha is "tired" of his role either, I legitimately think something weird happened with the voice direction for this patch, as Krile was a bit off as well, and we know these voice actors are actually quite capable people (and I like to believe this includes Wuk Lamat's VA). VAs just don't suddenly get "tired" of a role halfway through it to the point where it's as noticeable as it was in this patch.
