What is the read on this game from the Japanese playerbase?

Pretty sure they have even less chill than we do. In ShB, I remember reading about a Japanese SCH player who was not happy with the changes made to his job so he sent angry packages to Square HQ. And when the Ultimates world first competition was happening, every region knew that there were people cheating, but only JP went hard enough to dox players and organize public mass reporting campaigns to put the pressure on Square to abide by their own ToS until they finally had to act. Everyone acts like the reason Square listens to Japanese feedback is because of nationalism, and maybe that's part of it, but I think another part of it is the devs simply fear their Japanese players' haters because a hater from JP is chugging haterade and has no chill compared to an NA hater.

And honestly all of these haters look like a calm day at the beach compared to the Chinese community's haters. If you're ever on bilibili, those guys are making full blown meme videos styling on the dumbass parts of this game. Next time your friend complains about DRK in PvP, send them this. Meanwhile, if you wanna criticize the game on NA, you have to preface it with a million apologies and then brace for the great community to nuke you from orbit for saying even 1 bad thing. Look at how people turned on Zepla when she suddenly had a grievance with the game for the first time in like 50 years lmao.

You know I didnt even think about it like that. Heavens forbid Square HQ is stationed in our grounds were communication is a lot closer and crazy people start being more relaxed in doing crazier things to them. I always imagine this to be honest, you tend to get a lot more direct feedback if the game dev is from the same region as you are. Because say for like Lost Ark, the devs only really listen to the Korean players because they're the ones closest. Im not so entirely sure because its a nationalist thing to a supreme sense but just that its a lot easier since overall most feedback tends to be universal, especially if there is a feedback team that gathers data from every region to compare and contrast which is the best to look into and respond properly.

tl;dr, its never as simple as we like to believe we make it out to be. But thats not something your average player ever worries about anyway

It would be even more accurate to say all the people who don't speak German, French or Japanese are bundled together and made to speak English. These are pretty much global forums.

Not to mention a decent amount of German and French speakers also speak English as a second language and just join in the discussion of the English forums, since the French and German ones move very slowly by comparison.

Funnily enough, JP players make a stink out of third party tools, but in JP in a lot of online games, including XIV, they're willing to use third party tools to see what language your client is in to know if you;re a native or not. Then they bully you out of their region or blacklist you throughout the entire community to keep it pure. You can imagine how extreme their PoV of the game is if they're willing to go that far to find out peoples info to bully them.

Imagine how they treat the Devs when the feel they mucked an aspect of the game up.
