Why does this allways have to turn into some political rant. Can't we just agree you guys don't like it and leave it at that without some longwinded political manifesto about transphobia or trans rights. Its really a non issue right now....That is, until the definition gets altered so that the bar for being considered one is so low it's in hell, so much so that anyone could be considered one for looking the wrong way at someone.
This line of thinking you've espoused is why it's become popular to virtue signal and do public takedowns, by the way. If it's ok to discriminate against people you deem hateful, then you just have to find an excuse to deem them hateful, and then you may excuse all of your behavior towards them.
It's a real, honest to gosh horrible way to think.
It's the same, twisted logic, every time with these activists. And I think there's a good chance people may have found the friend/nepotism link through the "Sweet Baby Inc" consultancy group controversy. They also have Square Enix in their client list. This is very ironic given that this person is a "Transwoman" voicing a Female Hrothgar. By this logic, they should step down and ask whatever friend gave em this gig (I'm 100% on board with the idea floated somewhere here that this person was hired through a friend/ nepotism) to just hire a Woman, as this character isn't trans.
It really isn't unreasonable to believe so either. Yoshi P has gone on the record of saying he prefers to hire British people, because they (in his believes) weren't as easily offended as the Americans. So I'm very curious as to how a British studio, hired an American, trans activist who hates woman voicing 'trans' characters, got hired to voice a woman character, with a fake made up accent. Especially when neither the Japanese, French or German voice actors had any issues portraying the role written for them.

Bump a nearly month old thread to complain about activism and push the conspiracy that she was hired because of nepotisim? It's the same, twisted logic, every time with these activists. But no, this thread's not about transphobia.

I don't think accusing a trans person of being a beneficiary of nepotism meets the threshold of transphobia.
Vast majority of the time when transphobia is claimed it simply isn't actually involved .
Lmao, he has said something like that?

Guessing the comment they are referring to was specifically in regards to FFXVI's localization because, having a medieval inspired setting, he didn't want Americans complain if the voices weren't British.

No conspiracies here. Sweet Baby Inc. is a DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) consultancy group. Their CEO also gives speeches at the GDC (Game Developers Conference) to teach other developers and consultancy groups to use Scare/Intimidation tactics to get their changes implemented. How exactly is still debated, though there are people from the industry stepping forward as whistleblowers currently.
Now I recognize this is just one such group. But this group in particular, Does have Square Enix under their clientele.
So this is possibly relevant.
Especially when your "sensitivity reader" and "game writer" for "diversity, equity, and inclusion" apparently loves talking racist shit on twitter, and how they want to abort an entire race off our planet. (Spoiler alert, it's not POC.)
So we have the fact that Square Enix are clients of Sweet Baby Inc. People clearly are noticing something's off about this character, or you wouldn't hear people chiming in here. Upto page 63 no less. You're free to have your own opinions, and I didn't state anything definitive. But this does look like a red flag to me if you tally in Sena Bryer's activism history on Twitter.
Where, if you read what she says. By her very own logic, she should step down.
Thank you DrFroster for Linking the post. That's the one I was referring to.

Why use the actor as a scapegoat? Final Fantasy XIV doesn't exactly have the highest budget or quality, and there are plenty of other things wrong with the cutscenes besides just the acting. Why are the NPCs so slow? Why is the writing so godawful? Why does every cutscene have nothing but talking, nodding, and the occasional walking back and forth? Final Fantasy X has better-animated cutscenes despite being on the PS2.
The reason: Final Fantasy XIV is just treated as a side game like one of Square Enix's many mobile titles that are just there to churn money. The current CEO has run the company into the ground by insisting that everything has high profit margins with the least amount of effort put in. It's no longer good enough to make profit, you need to make an increasing rate of profit every quarter. It is the same syndrome that is causing every other gaming and tech company to fail. You can't make quality games with that mindset. Square Enix will fail in ten years and be bought out and Final Fantasy will become a legacy franchise.
FYI - most of the Scions are voiced by stage and screen actors. Social media has made a "new movement" of amateur voice actors without much screen or stage experience, and you can find them easily on Twitter/YouTube/Twitch (such as Wuk). They are more affordable, as cost of living means that professional actors have to ask for a living wage that greedy companies "can't afford".
I don't know if Square Enix will fail in 10 years, somehow...some way they always seem to bounce back once they pull their desperation card.
I sometimes get this feeling of Apathy from them until at the last minute.
Is the woke in the room with us right now?No conspiracies here. Sweet Baby Inc. is a DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) consultancy group.
People are still being weird about the VA being trans and being openly transphobic in here?![]()
