[Feedback] Wuk Lamat's English Voice

Some scenes do sound weird, but they're not exclusive to Wuk Lamat (just more noticeable since she's the expansion heroine, like Lyse was). No way anyone heard Thancred and went "yeah, sounds perfectly normal to me!" Definitely seems to be a voice director issue + what VA's have to work with (which seems to just be a script with no storyboard or any visual contexts whatsoever).

Part of it was definitely the script. Almost every character in the expansion areas, including Final Fantasy Texas, are virtually indistinguishably from the Scions and Sharlayans (I'm talking word choice here, not accents). Some of the FFTexas people didn't use contractions at all, which sounded weird. Zekowa, who KIND of had a drawl at one point said, "But I doubt he'd trust a lackey with that business, given the provenance of the piece."

Really? The gun-toting, renegade hoodlum said "provenance?" And in the same zone, the railroad engineer said, "I have to admit it was a touch strange, having seen my fair share of tremors. If I had to describe it, it felt more like the rumbling from an explosion." If one read either of those lines out of context and without a name attached to the chat bubble, I bet most people wouldn't be able to identify that it wasn't a scion talking.

The quality of the writing really has gone down this expansion. It's not bottom-of-the-barrel, but it's definitely a noticeable drop in quality. The VAs are having to read some pretty crappy script, which I suspect comes from the localization, and so even the ones who do a decent job (so not Wuk) all sound very samey.

Come to think of it, why do all of the Turali people have exactly the same linguistic tics as Eorzeans (minus Limsa Pirates and Eorzean bandits)?

As a man of hispanic origin living in the US I felt offended by Wuk's EN voice, she doesn't even sound like a ESL Spanish person trying to speak English it sounds more like an offensive stereotype! I don't like how the VA was some white lady doing the voicework out of "social justice" or whatnot if they were serious they would've hired a Latina VA with actual credentials to do the work, not some lady who had maybe a taco from a Mexican restaurant and that was her entire resume for getting the job.

if certain leaks are to be believed, Kate turned away an actual latina VA for wuk in favor of keeping Sena on board.
Take this with a grain of salt, but I've also heard Sena was apparently very rude in the studio. idk how legitimate these claims may be but judging by her behavior on social media I'm inclined to believe them.
It's a shame. Actions like this make it harder for trans VAs who actually know what they're doing to get work.

On other side, instead I can have fun with generation whatever you call yourselves currently in USA is offended again. As we normally do with modern people from there anyway.

Honestly, I have no idea why this thread is still going.

I think it’s bad voice direction. Everyone sounded a bit… off, not just Llama Tea. I don’t think she was ‘miscast’ and likely wasn’t given much direction.

With lack of direction comes bad voice overs even from veterans. This was the issue with ARR.

Oh matey, we are so dump and we took the bait instantly, right? Of course you will not say here "omg its trans", no, no, no. If there is one black guy in the room you will not say "he is black", you will come up with something that will not kick you out of the room when said, right?

And I don't need to proof that, just go and check review bombing in metacritic and steam with the SBi conspiracy on most posts, or the other modern term DEI. It would be outrageous someone to have 100+ IQ and manage to connect the dots.

Plus, people complain for every single VA of japanese media from way before you were born, still none of them was worthy of review bombing and 108 pages cryabout.
