[Feedback] Wuk Lamat's English Voice

As a man of hispanic origin living in the US I felt offended by Wuk's EN voice, she doesn't even sound like a ESL Spanish person trying to speak English it sounds more like an offensive stereotype! I don't like how the VA was some white lady doing the voicework out of "social justice" or whatnot if they were serious they would've hired a Latina VA with actual credentials to do the work, not some lady who had maybe a taco from a Mexican restaurant and that was her entire resume for getting the job.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought this. Her accent is terrible, representative of nowhere. It's not a North or South American Spanish accent of any variety, it's not a Brazilian Portuguese accent, it's not Guarani or any other indigenous language accent I've ever heard; it really does sound like an offensive stereotype. It doesn't even match the accents of the other people around her (who should have similar accents, given they've lived together). And it's made even worse that she does Newscaster pronunciations for non-English words (you know, where they're speaking in whatever accent they normally have until they get to a name or word specifically said in another language and then GROSSLY overpronounce it). It's like that Saturday Night Live skit. Wuk Lamat saying Tuliyollal is absolutely the worst out of all of the cast, for example. No one else, at least that I recall, spits it out like she does.

Gulool Ja Ja's accent sounds the most natural even though he speaks in a weird stilted way (that part has to be voice direction, at least).

Needless to say, they should do one of the following the next time they hire someone to do an accent:

1) Hire a person who naturally has the accent they want and can also voice act.
2) Hire a person who doesn't naturally have the accent but can actually do it, no matter their native language.
3) Hire someone who can voice act and dispense with the accent for that particular person.

If Wuk Lamat's voice actor could voice act without the accent, they should have let her rather. I suspect that the accent is what's holding her back, but who knows (though, given the way she yells when standing at the top of the stairs in Tuliyollal and also in the last battle...). Hopefully her other work is better.

For those from Latin America, if you don't enjoy the representation from the VA as Wuk from the game then it's ok to call it out. It's ok to ask her to step down from the role so someone who can better represent your culture can take up the role. It's not hate-targeting to ask for Sena to step down, because she herself has done it before and believe that to be the case as well. Sena is white, and faking an accent that your people find offending so it's fine if you have to call it out.







People should understand your want for representation for a role that should've been thought about more from Kate to not misrepresent your country, culture, and people. I don't think SQX ignoring the outcry of Latin America will do them well, especially since the role was taken by a white woman. To our knowledge, Wuk Lamat isn't trans as well, and gender does matter a lot to Sena and Kate. Sena also can't fake the accent to represent your culture, and seems to break the American accent in, so by her word it's ok because she's unfit for the role.



Kate should agree with you too. She's pushing to bring more Latin American actors to the scene, which does help authenticate the culture that the races in the New World represents. So don't fear it as wrong to want to have someone better represent your culture, if you're mad then say something about it or bring it to the attention of SQX.


For those of us who are not of Latin America, we can't say that for you. It'd be quite rude and racist for us to talk for you. You should have the support of Luis, Koana's VA, as well.

On a personal note, I really hope that the reason the Scions got barely any lines this expansion wasn't due to their English Voice counterpart being white. Kate, Sena, and Luis seem like they REALLY have a problem with white people, which shouldn't be an issue that goes on to affect the rest of the world, especially those of us in Asia and Latin America or just those that use the JPN/FRE/GER voices. I love rewatching the story and hearing Yuichi Nakamura and Ai Kayano, so I don't want their roles to be diminished if it's because Kate has an issue with the British VAs.

For the X/twitter stuff, I had some stuff leftover. You can get A LOT of stuff if people have been using the thing for like 10 years, assuming you are able to grab them.

Isnt she Puerto Rican or of some Puerto Rican descent? I thought that was originally mentioned in one of her tweets regarding the role.

Some scenes do sound weird, but they're not exclusive to Wuk Lamat (just more noticeable since she's the expansion heroine, like Lyse was). No way anyone heard Thancred and went "yeah, sounds perfectly normal to me!" Definitely seems to be a voice director issue + what VA's have to work with (which seems to just be a script with no storyboard or any visual contexts whatsoever).
