I didn't know about the different studios, but that explains so much. I've enjoyed the British voice actors so much all this time and wondered what was up this time with a lot of the new additions to the cast. It's not really a Wuk-specific issue. It's an issue of the entirety of the studio they got for all of the American-based actors.
Everyone sounds like they're from FF7 Rebirth in that they have anime voice acting, which is a far cry from the UK-based studio of classicially-theatre trained actors that we're used to.
Whatever happened with American VA studios? Like I swear like 5 years ago there was a huge improvement in the quality in voice acting in American-localized games, with releases like the Three Houses being pretty stellar for "anime" games after years of subpar voice-work, but now it feels like we are back to old dubs all over again. It's not really a Wuk-specific issue. Only Koana seems to have bucked this trend and sounds like he belongs in XIV. And Galool Ja Ja.

they have "anime voice acting" because that's how their characters are written. so they had the right approach, just not the right results. using your ff7 rebirth example again, i'd say that's "anime voice acting" done right. yuffie has that high energy of a character like wuk lamat but her VA is a lot more experiencedIt's not really a Wuk-specific issue. Unions, you get lower quality VAs when you go non-union in the US. A lot of anime and video game voice work has started to go non-union to cut costs and there is a noticeable dip in quality when you go cheaper and do fewer takes like that.Whatever happened with American VA studios? Like I swear like 5 years ago there was a huge improvement in the quality in voice acting in American-localized games, with releases like the Three Houses being pretty stellar for "anime" games after years of subpar voice-work, but now it feels like we are back to old dubs all over again.
People can like the voice acting for Wuk, and people can hate it too. I do think the VA is a bit too inexperienced for an MC role considering their lack ability to scream. Considering that Kate, from Luis' Twitter post, had involvement around Wuk, so in theory with the voice acting bit as well, then it is to say that it was a miscast, or in some cases a DEI cast.
I think getting a normal female voice actor for the job probably could've alleviated any issues with screams, or tone of voice, due the voice being more naturally occurring. It's rare to have a VA like Ayumu Murase who can do both a cute girl voice and a beautiful man (Ikkemen) voice. The only voice actor I know who can do a very high-pitched voice in the anime VA community is Ben Diskin with his Cutemon voice, and even then it can't get to the high volume of a scream of sorts or yell.
We've had Trans VA's before, like Maddie Blaustein who was the second voice for Meowth on Pokemon and probably the one people know the best. Meowth isn't a female role, but the acting is superb, and she even sang as Meowth. I just don't think Sena has the talent, at the moment, to be in such a big role and possibly in a role where the voice just isn't a fit if yelling or screaming changes the tone of the voice drastically.
We've had nonbinary people play characters that fit their voice in the UK side, such as Lilly Hart, who played Gender-ambiguous Juniper, even the game data doesn't tell if Juniper is a girl or a guy. Yet the voice fits, the battle lines fit, the voice acting is amazing. It's all about being casted right, and Sena just wasn't casted in the right role.
If you look into their twitter/X, you can get some pretty crazy stuff. Maybe she should follow her own words and have let a cis-gendered woman have the role. Especially if the voice is a better fit. Don't go down the Twitter/x rabbit hole though, most people there can get downright nasty and cruel but some pics below. If she's willing to go after another VA, she shouldn't complain about criticism coming her way.

Whelp... Congratulations on giving all the people saying this was a diversity hire all the fuel they needed to keep this argument going until the end of time. Why can people just... not post unhinged crap on their social media. I give up. Her behavior is just as bad as her voice acting, which really doubles down on the question of why she was hired in the first place.
Huh? Whose saying the WoL is a background character? Banana oil! The Warrior of Light is gonna need a massage after this because he's been carrying Wuk Lamat to victory.
I actually like Lammy as a character, and I tried to like her English voice...but I kept seeing more and more flaws in the delivery and that accent just....sounds fake. Really fake. I can't even place it. But the worst part so far (I am only up to 97) is when.she calls out "papa" after the demise of dear ol Gulool Ja Ja. The way she stresses the second "pa" during a moment of despair was absolute murder on the dramatic tension because of how forced it sounds. A "damn it" or a "no" to match the Japanese "kuso" would have worked far better.
I didn't hate her, but got damn Wuk's english VA can't express any emotion. Wuk's speaking role in the final boss was painful on delivery
I noticed she has "Blue Check blocked automatically by list" or something in her bio when 6.5 came out and thought to myself, That's odd behavior, most of her colleagues and her employers are blue checks, And i bet if you look shes not actually blocking all blue checks, we all know when we see people like that they're usually unhinged and have created some self delusions of what they think other groups or people are. Generalizations are bad when it happens to them, but they're totally fine when they do it to others.Whelp... I kept digging. TBH, I'd probably not associate with this VA. Talking bad about other VA's voice capabilities when the VA had a hard time as is to get hired and then we saw that she can't act. I get that it's hard to get into the voice acting scene, but to be so spiteful against people about it. I'd assumed she wasn't hired because of her attitude, her insane spite against cis-women, and her horrible voice work. How she got hired to be the MC of Dawntrail is a miracle in itself. I love our British VAs, so she better not talk crap about them.
