This is not a hard concept, you dont get to adopt the actual lived culture of a place because your parents, grand parents or whatever are from there, you are where you grew up for the most part and it takes a lot of time living in a new place to change to become integrated in a culture you did not grow up in, and even then i bet the locals would still generally refer to you as an out of towner.
