While on the surface I rather agree with you on another level I sort of get it. I do textile crafts. I happily dropped $200 for a handmade stand for my lace making pillow so I can sit in the living room and work on a project instead of having to be at the table. I also dropped $150 for lace making bobbins + another $50 to have them shipped from Spain to the US.

Not my place to look down on someone else's hobby when I have my own big expenditures on my own.

The things you described serve a purpose; you use them to improve your hobby, which involves creating something.

I recently purchased a small treadmill for 2000 SEK (194 freedom units), which I use every day for running and walking. Improving my cardiovascular health.

I completely agree that you should not criticize other people's interests, and that everyone have the right to spend their money however they see fit, but $400 for one statue (emote) is a horrible investment in my opinion, especially given people don't even appear to want the statue. Only the emote.

How often do you use your $400 emote?

I don't as I don't even use the free ones in game. I didn't buy the thing and look at the the thing as "Who would pay that much for a statue and an emote?" Like I said I mostly agree with you. If someone collects statues like that for whatever reason I just don't feel like I should judge them. Envy their cash flow a tad maybe but not judge.

even though i hate the extortion that is these over priced emotes and statues, i would forgive it if it was not such short supply with no intent to ever reprint the statue or re release the emote, i've wanted that Odin statue and emote forever, and i refuse to buy it from a 3rd party scalper..

they extort their players, we are paying out the wazoo for this game and cash shop, and their cheap merch is so overpriced on top of it, heck, i'm sorry i have to be a Saudi oil tycoon to be able to enjoy one piece of mediocre media.

and then its like: 'you have to order NOW... but you will get it in 6-12 months... and we're not doing it to make as many items as there are orders, it is still very heavily limited'

I think the general difference here is that, I'd assume, the money you spent on your craft was spent on quality products that deserve the tag they're given. Good textile isn't cheap, as far as I'm aware.

Even with things like statues there're many of those that're a pure work of art and cost every penny they're sold for. The new Zodiark & Hydaelyn one is just... not that.

"An item costs as much as one is ready to pay for it" and all, I guess, but still, this new figurine is way overpriced for what it provides. I'm not going to judge anyone on how they spend their income they work for (I do buy figurines I like a lot very occasionally, myself), I just think SE should at least do better in terms of quality for their "Meister" figurines (especially when they have other figurine series that look better for a lower price so they can do better).

It’s a crafting hobby and the products make your hobby more enjoyable and comfortable. The commercial gaming statuette has no use beside collecting dust. It’s a mere possession of little value contrary to some works of art.

As for the emote, it serves no purpose either other than make you character move its body a certain way for a few seconds. How many times would one use it any way?

Blah if someone wants to spend money on those inane things, I don’t care.

People are really clueless, egocentric and judgmental huh. Wait until they realize how much others fork for a pair of plastic shoes, a heap of metal, a seat in a cold and loud stadium, a plane/bus ticket for a boring destination or just how much TIME they spend in virtual worlds.

    Sounds stupid/familiar ? Good, don't judge.

I couldn’t care less and don’t care how much they sell their statuettes and attached emotes. No one needs them, it’s only indulgence so don’t come and complain about the price (I like nice cars and that’s my own business but a cheaper model would do just fine…there are yet more expensive ones and I don’t go and complain).

Given how fast the statuettes were sold, maybe SE priced them right. There can always be better, bigger and shinier than what we have. People just need to accept that they can’t get everything they want and need to make decisions about what they want and can get. It’s not the price of bread we’re talking about, not even anything that affects gameplay. I can play the game just as fine without those items. Not owning them doesn’t interfere with anything.

SE really out here paying somebody's rent for them.

Imagine using this emote in town lmao. I'd be ashamed to even have it. I won the whale mount in a player run lotto contest back when people would just toss item codes out there, and whenever I whip it out to give people rides while doing maps, I always feel gross for being seen using it. Like, ew, people think I spent 40 dollars on this trash. Imagine floating in town and showing everyone that you spent like 400 dollars on a low quality figurine and an emote that broadcasts "look at me, I'm a paypig!" to everybody around you.
Personally I think the whale mount is different. I spent the money willingly for it because I wanted to have a mount to carry that many people, and it does its job. Same with using the bike with Alpha in it; it will be used constantly in Dawntrail for me before I get flight and to ferry a friend of mine around.
With the emote, there's nothing else to it except saying you spent $400 just to be flashy for a few seconds.
