As a person who absolutely loves glamours and FFXIV, I'm loath to say I kinda hate some of the appendages on some of the gear, which led me to the thought: Why can't gear augmentation be a thing? I mean, it'd be more work, obviously, but it'd allow for a lot more diversity in gear options without necessarily having to add in more gear to allow for those options. Take the Hooded Fireglass Leather Vest or the Adventurer's Hooded Vest; these are amazingly cool looking gear pieces, but I wouldn't consider using the Hooded Fireglass Leather Vest most times because the belt at the bottom tends to look weird with some of my glamour choices. If I could take that off though, which is a small augmentation overall, I'd be totally into using it, which is much the same with a lot of other gear I like such as the Skyworker's garb, the Pagos Shirt, etc. So, the suggestion here is maybe allow players to go a mender, have a crafting skill, or just toggleable options that allows them to remove bits of the gear that could be seen as additions to the main piece. This could also be used to add on things like hoods to pieces that have detached hoods, helping to lessen that disconnect between the main gear piece and head piece.
