Game keeps freezing and crashing PC

This has only been a relatively recent problem that I've had, and I've noticed I'm not the only one having it.

At random intervals and without warning, FFXIV will freeze and completely lock up my computer (save for sound, in game sounds and whatever else I may be playing on my PC at the time will continue to play) and I'm forced to hard restart my PC in order to fix it. Sometimes it happens within minutes of me playing, sometimes I can be on for hours before it hits me.

I've seen a few other people post here about the same problem, so I've tried to follow all of the instructions they've been given on their posts, but to no avail. I've tried updating my graphics drivers, completely uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics drivers, playing the game with DirectX11 turned off, playing on lower resolutions. Nothing works.

Is this a problem on Square Enix's side? No other game on my PC has this problem, it's strictly only FFXIV. What do I do?

Do you get any error messages or are there any errors/warnings listed in the Windows Event log in relation to the crash? It could be a number of reasons causing it - corrupted config files, corrupted game files, corrupted system files, failing hardware, issue with a recent Windows update, etc.

In these instances I'd always try:

1. Reinstall Graphics Drivers (which you've noted you've done already)
2. Do a check/repair on game files
3. Run an sfc /scannow on your system to check system files.
4. Run troubleshooting/diagnostic test on your hardware (memory check, hard drive check, etc).

Seeing if there's any errors regarding the crash in your Windows Event Log would help narrow down possible causes.

Error Codes or Messages (If any): N/A, the game just stops moving and my PC is stuck until I force it off and back on.

Other programs running while the game is playing (if any): Sometimes YouTube, but lately FFXIV is the only thing running.
Frequency at which error occurs: Varies wildly. Sometimes it happens 3 times in an hour, sometimes it doesn't happen for a few days.
Any steps taken to resolve the issue: Updated graphics drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled graphics drivers, did a check/repair on game files, tried playing with DirectX11 off, playing on lower resolution, etc.

Please try the following:
- Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card and sound drivers (if applicable). After reviewing the system report, it appears that your GPU [AMD Radeon RX5600] was last updated on [7/17/2023]. At this time a newer version should be available.
- Please try lowering the resolution.
- Please try running the game as an administrator.
- Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
- Please be sure that Final Fantasy XIV is installed to the C: Drive. (If Steam version, make sure both the game and Steam are installed on same drive)
- Please be sure to disable or remove any overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA etc.) as they may interfere with startup.
- Make sure that the Windows OS is fully updated.
- Verify installation files (Steam)
- Reinstall game (If steam version, try uninstalling and reinstalling both the game and Steam)

I had an issue with XIV freezing constantly mid-game ever since Dawntrail. It was to the point the game was near unplayable since it was happening a lot more frequently, within hours, as of recent. I had tried about every method I could try to fix the game, but to no avail. Up until recently, a friend who had the same issue as me told me how he fixed his issue with the game.

He instructed me to uninstall Microsoft OneDrive off my computer. Since I don't really use the application, I proceeded to do so and so far as of typing this out my game hasn't froze for the past couple of hours.
I hope this solution helps out others, it's such a very odd and specific issue and I don't know how widespread it is since I couldn't find anyone else talking about this problem.
