As others have said, if you look at the animations of other jobs, it seems very out of place. And as an artist in real life, parts of it look look someone just dribbled with MS Paint over the game screen.

The nostalgia of Relm may be the source of my love for the job, but I’m not looking there for what I want the job effects to look like. The cgi trailer was wow! The gameplay trailer was, is this the same job? lol

as a fine artist im gona biggg disagree with you. looks like watercolour or acrylic.

like u have to really tone down ur expectations if you think this mmo will EVER look that good. maybe in 10 years?

This argument is predicated on players requiring to actually play the job in order to have a first impression. If you understand that it is a first impression, then you should also understand that it isn't irrational for a new job release to fall short if player expectation. If players wanted something like Green Mage or Geomancer, it should be understandable why they are disappointed. They are not fully judging it, or even attempting to. They are making an assessment based of what is shown to them.

They also know what the job is. It has been explained in full. It's a caster. It starts at lv80. It attacks the enemy using illustrations. It uses caster gear. It requires the new expansion in order to unlock it. Of course they don't know how it plays. If the first impression doesn't interest them, then why should they even care?

Think of the player as an employer, and the new job is the candidate being interviewed. An employer truly doesn't know how an employee will perform until after they hire them, so they have to make a decision purely based in judgment and first impressions. For many of the caster mains out there, Pictomancer did not make it past the interview stage.

I would’ve preferred Green Mage over Pictomancer since the color green and DoTs and debuffs are my jam but I’m willing to give it a shot and I’m OK with the Splatoon look of the spell effects.

If it ends up that it’s another turret caster it can go straight to the seven hells though.

    That's probably cause:

    A) Everyone WoW that was coming over to FFXIV was brand new at the time was behaving all googly eyed over it for reaction content.
    B) Reaper was essentially Necromancer which at the time was a job MANY MANY people were asking for. The moment everyone saw the Scythe, it was the biggest hype around. It also pleased both masculine and feminine groups equally.

As for Pictomancer, nobody was really asking for Pictomancer until Yoshi-P wore the TMNT shirt. Some people feel a bit let down and even betrayed after Yoshi-P made a portion of the community believed we were going to get brand new original jobs and not classic fan service jobs. For some people, Pictomancer is to girly in their opinion, and they are tired of this game putting feminine things front and center. Lastly, for some, a paint brush isn't a serious weapon. One of my friends even said that they are glad picto came after EW because they wouldn't have been able to immerse themselves seriously against Zeno if they were using paint. Some people just can't see a painter as a serious combat job, and just feel it's more so Twitter artists can feel more immersed with their irl job of being a painter.

I've seen all of these complaints around, yes even the twitter one. To them, its nothing more than LGBT the job, since most twitter artists are exactly that and therefore it feels immersive breaking to them that every time they think of Pictomancer they just think of Twitter instead.

Overall, I'm pretty sure Viper has more hate than Picto since the Corsair crowd was more disappointed and louder than the Green Mage crowd. Most of the Green Mage crowd was just hoping for a true support role akin to Dancer.

Edit: There is also a small portion of people that are upset because they thought Painter could have gone to crafting instead.

Edit 2: Some people are fine with Pictomancer as well, but just hate that Krile is becoming a star figure this expansion when they find her uninteresting.

I'm gonna say that I am not a fan of it being cartoony, but whatever, I have other people's effects disabled anyway and I will only see them for the brief time I play it.

sevral people said theyre going to unsub just because of it
A lot of people are excited for it. I have seen countless videos of people just extremely happy, jumping with joy and who even made videos predicting it beforehand. So I don't think it's really fair to say SE was wrong to add it. They read the room right, even if there are those in the room (like myself) who don't care for the job.

sevral said theyde kick pictomancers from there pf
It's really just like Dancer. We could make the argument that a lot of the people who rushed to play a Dancer were more allured to the dancing than playing well so it put a giant label on them. But we just dealt with it and accepted it, like we will with Pictomancer.

sevral people said its a GIRLS and LGBT only job (this is the most laughable 1 so far)
One of this game's strengths is it is made by men and women, not just men. Because of that, it has elements that appeal to a wide variety of people.

They will put war, fighting, axes and high-end raids in, but they will also put pink things, cute things, glamours with interesting patterns on for people with dress sense, dancers, moogles, lalafells, musical instruments and yes, they will put artists in.

    - We dont know its job guage/resources

    - We dont know all of its skills

    - We dont know what sort of buffs or extra utility theyll be bringing to the party, besides lack of rez

    - We dont know the rotation

    - We dont know the meta

Yeah Im pretty sure just looking at vague skills and visual effects isnt fully enough to warrant to form a valid opinion of the job. Like I said, I understand first impressions but the trailer is so lackluster that any current opinions are at this point groundless. Try again

The only decent looking battle effect shown in the trailer.
