Thoughts on: Summoners Main weapon - Book

I understand that both Summoner and Scholars share a starting job Archanist as a base, but I'm kinda over the whole book thing with Summoners. Scholars can retain their Books.
I Think Summoner should adapt something new. What kinda of weapons I'm not sure...as long as it's unique. I also know its easier they way it is now, since it only is a color palette swap between the 2 books most cases.

I kinda want something like old conjurers of weapon AND shield, but maybe like a club and drum (second hand).

I wish they'd make more interesting books, and not ones with the same pages since ARR. They've made a few like the recent scholar savage weapon or palette, but I don't care about palettes. Something like a tablet or slab would be nice for a change.

I think given how long the Summoner has had a book, its highly unlikely to change now. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to them using paper talismans or paper scrolls as a variance to the book. The summoner doesn't change how they summon the primal vs Carbuncle. Its still imbuing via special ink with the summoner just using attuned aether and their "idea" of what the summon should look like. Essentially I think book does fit in the context of FFXIV even if i wish it didn't. One thing i would like is the for there to be more options than just book - stone tablets being another as mentioned by Teno.

I guess the issue is that the animations are very attuned to them holding the weapon in a specific way so would need to be moved. That said, another weapon i did like the idea of was for crystal focus/ book/scroll to float beside the summoner or for Carbuncle to be the weapon we use.

Either way, i doubt we'll see any changes yet if ever.

Interesting point on that front I’ve always said SCH should swap to a scroll and quill (similar to the one on the ilvl 500 relic weapon) so it better distinguishes it from SMN while still retaining the same design

Then they can go all in on all books being very SMN esque because they don’t have to share that design space with SCH anymore

Some kind of simple talisman or orb (or even fan) that'd still basically use the same animation could work as a compromise, as nice as having a wholly unique weapon would be. I think only /bstance or /vstance has explicitly book page turning animations, and I don't it's an unreasonable ask for those at least to be made unique between the jobs.

Now imagine if ACN, in general use a BO staff with grimoire(SMN), codex(SCH) as off-hand?

Books are the most boring weapon, with a few exceptions that I can count on my hand... It's literally the last one I care to see when a new collection is released. Sadly, I don't think it will ever change, but I'd welcome more distinct books, and there are 2 ways to make that happen:

1) More out-of-the-box models, like the Kitseos books that are hollow and have a focus floating over them, or the FFXIII 'book' that folds into a boomerang, a stone tablet book (we've seen books with no pages now like the watercolor book), or heck, in the advent of Solution 9, there's no better time to actually make a holographic display book.

2) Traditional books without a lot going on (those huge edges and adornments that literally make the book a poking hazard) BUT they'd invest more of the designing budget into the actual effect. For example, a book that when open you see a phantasmal ifrit illustration hovering above the book.

I've backtrack some of my argument. Ok how about more "tooth and claw" designs to the Summoners Book. Think Harry Potter or "Forbidden Books" in Discworld with chains around the book.
